JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Children’s Services Director, the Nutrition Services Specialist is responsible for planning and coordinating, tracking, monitoring, record keeping and reporting, supervising and evaluating, and supporting and collaborating to ensure the effective operation of the Nutrition Program.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science or related field with three (3) years experience in a nutrition services program. Ability to communicate. Knowledgeable in the use of computers.
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the Agency.
Planning and Developing
Collects data and participates in writing and updating the nutrition work plan.
Requests needed professional services, supplies and equipment.
Participates in team planning sessions.
Assists with the negotiation of contracts and other agreements with professionals.
Provides for the integration of nutrition education into the Head Start program.
Assists with developing program schedules, record keeping and reporting systems.
Assists in organizing the Health Services Advisory Committee.
Prepares balanced menus and provides for their distribution to parents and staff in accordance with program requirements.
Prepares procedures for and organizes the Menu Planning Committee.
Prepares USDA/Child and Adult Care Food Program Application.
Communicating
Recruits volunteers and in-kind contributions.
Provides nutrition education curriculum materials for parents and staff.
Collaborates with nutrition services agencies and groups to promote good food practices.
Serves on program committees and boards of other organizations affiliated with children and families.
Checks, verifies and maintains confidential and other required records in accordance with work plan.
Provides follow-up services based on the assessment of needs.
Training
Attends and participates in staff meetings, parent meetings and activities and other program activities.
Conducts training sessions for staff, parents and volunteers.
Attends workshops, conferences and training sessions.
Monitoring
Performs managements oversight monitoring of assigned centers.
Makes home and center visits in accordance with nutrition services work plan.
Assists with the assessment of training needs and the development of training design.
Record Keeping and Reporting
Participates in the performance evaluation of nutrition staff.
Participates on the selection process for the hiring of nutrition staff.
Prepares and submits program reports as required.
Supervising and Evaluating
Provides input in developing job descriptions and performance evaluation plans for nutrition staff.
Additional Responsibilities
Performs other duties and assignments as directed by supervisor.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to fill out various reports. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an indoor environment.
