Job Overview:
The Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining, securing, and optimizing the organization's network infrastructure. This role involves monitoring network performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions to ensure a reliable and efficient network environment. The Network Administrator will also support security management, documentation, vendor management, and disaster recovery planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Administer and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitor network performance, diagnose issues, and implement corrective measures to ensure consistent, optimal network operation.
Security Management:
- Implement and maintain network security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPNs.
- Conduct security audits and assessments to detect and address vulnerabilities and enhance network security.
Network Configuration and Optimization:
- Configure and optimize network devices and protocols for efficient data transmission and minimal downtime.
- Perform capacity planning to ensure scalability and support the organization’s growing network needs.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide technical support and resolve network-related issues for end-users and IT staff.
- Investigate and address connectivity, performance, and reliability issues in a timely manner.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations, diagrams, and procedures.
- Generate regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and system utilization for management review.
Vendor & Service Provider Management:
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement, installation, and support of network hardware/software.
- Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with service providers to ensure smooth operations.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for the network to minimize disruption during outages.
- Participate in business continuity planning to ensure network resilience and operational continuity during emergencies.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned related to network management, troubleshooting, and IT support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Exchange, and Linux (Ubuntu) servers.
- Experience with network setup and maintenance in Wide Area Networks (WAN), including switches, routers, firewalls, and troubleshooting internet connectivity.
- Familiarity with terminal servers, MS-DOS commands, and system maintenance procedures.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair damaged or compromised equipment and perform data recovery tasks.
- Proficient in drafting and managing Group Policy Objects (GPO) and writing PowerShell scripts.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with staff, management, and external stakeholders.
Technical Environment:
- Cybersecurity/End Point Protection: CrowdStrike (via ActZero), Microsoft Defender.
- Cloud Services: Microsoft Entra for Active Directory (AD)/Domain Controller (DC).
- Network Tools: Cisco Meraki, Wireshark.
- Service Desk: SysAid (work ticket system), ConnectWise/ScreenConnect (remote access).
- Email Filtering/Relay: Mimecast.
- Project Management: Asana, Microsoft Teams.
- Software & Systems: Ubuntu Server (22.04), Microsoft Server (2019 & 2022), Windows 10/11, MS Intune, SCCM, PDQ Deploy, Concur, Verizon MDM, WordPress, Macrium, OpenVPN, Apple iOS, PuTTY, Adobe Pro/CC, MS OneDrive, SharePoint, Exchange, SSH, PowerShell Scripting, BitLocker, and more.
