The NeurodiagnosticTechnologist I performs all required standard studies independently. Performs complex studies under minimal supervision, including EEG during Pet and SPECT Scan, Neonatal EEGs, and WADA test. May need some experiencing in performing diagnostic evoked potentials: VEP, BAER, SSEP, and nerve conductions studies. Incumbents in the Technologist III position carry additional responsibilities above and beyond their clinical role, which includes providing guidance to junior technicians.
Essential Job Functions
- Explains procedure, Answers are pertinent procedure questions
- Documents medical history and other relevant information from the patient, patient's chart or referring physician
- Marks and measures patients with tape measure and grease pencil according to the international 10/20 system
- Utilizing paste or Adhesive tapes, applies electrodes according to the 10/20and /or 10/10 Modified Nomenclature System as deemed necessary
- Independently obtains standard and complex recordings in outpatient area or as a portable study in the ER, ICU, OR, EMU, radiology or inpatient wards
- Recognizes all artifacts and demonstrates advanced technical trouble shooting skills to eliminate them
- Applies additional electrodes to appropriately monitor other variables such as EKG, EMG, EOG, respirations and abnormal or questionable EEG activity as technically or clinically indicated or to clarify abnormal activity
- Appropriately uses activation procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep, as well as utilizing creative activation procedures when needed
- Demonstrates skill in devising special or alternate montages
- Masters manipulation of equipment settings for electroencephalographic recordings as deemed necessary
- Demonstrates advanced skill in creating new montages and selects creative electrode combinations for both scalp and intracranial recordings
- Applies advanced knowledge of EEG waveform recognition
- Utilizes relevant medical terminology when summarizing the recording for the purpose of informing the physician of abnormalities observed during the test
- Demonstrates ability to perform in at least 2 of the following modalities: Evoked Potentials, Nerve Conduction Studies / Electromyography, WADA and Epilepsy Monitoring or EEG monitoring with PET under minimal supervision
- Performs NCS/NCV procedures and assists physician with EMG procedure where deemed necessary
- Applies scalp electrodes utilizing 10/10 Modified Nomenclature and connects grid cables on intracranial grid patients under indirect supervision
- Assist with documentation of intra-operative subdural electrode placement under indirect supervision
- Programs montage for simultaneous subdural and scalp EEG recording under indirect supervision
- Assists with evoked potential cortical grid mapping in the ICU direct supervision
- Assists physician with cortical mapping by electrical stimulation under indirect supervision of senior techs
Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred but equivalent health care experience may take the place of a degree
- Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technology Program or completion of the ASET on-line 12 training modules.
- Minimum of three (3) years performing standard and complex neurodiagnostic procedures required.
- R.EEG. T. or equivalent (such as R.EP.T. or CLTM) required or eight (8) years of experience with the ability to perform job duties.
- Must possess ASET competency skills and knowledge required by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) for national board certification
- Must be proficient with the International 10-20 and 10-10 system
- Minimum of three (3) or more years directly related experience
- Must have entry level knowledge of PC or Microsoft Windows
- Must possess the EEG Technologist Competencies set forth by ASET’s National Competency Skill Standards
- CPR certified in basic cardiac life support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within 90 days of hire

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 36 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work the Night shift, and will not be scheduled for on-call shifts. We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary between Sunday-Saturday. You may be scheduled to work rotating weekends.
