Department Summary
The Institute for Translational Research is devoted to bringing novel diagnostics and interventions to patients and families suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, fostering translational research in neurodegenerative diseases at UNTHSC, and Create solutions for a healthier community. Our team spans basic "bench-top" science, clinical research, community-based research and clinical trials. Our translational approach is intended to foster discovery and expedite those discoveries toward the benefit of those suffering from brain disease. A particular emphasis of ITR is the development of personalized (or person-focused) medicine for Alzheimer's disease.
Position Overview
Research of the lab focuses on the application of neuroimaging methods in neurodegenerative disease in diverse populations. The applicant will utilize established analytic software packages to prepare acquired data for analysis by research staff. Imaging data consists of structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to analyze data, including numerical detail, identify patterns or trends, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to present various data in clear concise forms to a variety of audiences.
- Basic working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, legal statutes, and analysis and reporting of financial data.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or significant study in neurosciences, computer sciences, psychology, or other related fields.
- Ability to develop and write new analytic software.
- Strong facility with statistical analyses.
- Experience with statistical computing (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS).
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated technical ability including effective skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).

Job Duties:
- Retrieve data from intranet repositories, organize data for initial pre-processing, perform pre-processing and communicate results with researchers in the laboratory.
- Analyze images from multiple modalities
- Use existing analytic software packages (e.g., Freesurfer and others) to prepare acquired data for analysis by the research staff of the laboratory
- Assist with manuscript preparation and reporting as necessary
- Assist with statistical computing of image analysis, neuropsychological assessments, demographics and other data to assist the laboratory team.
