What you'll do on a typical day:
- Implement GXO's corporate-level export/import compliance standards, guidelines, and compliance monitoring procedures for GXO's operations globally, but with specific responsibility for Canada, Mexico, USA, and South America
- Identify and escalate any potential violations of customs or trade compliance regulations (ITAR & EAR) and implement process improvements to mitigate risks
- Support internal, external, and government-directed trade compliance site visits, audits, and assessments, and assist with corrective actions, as necessary
- Advise the business on the application and implementation of corporate-level trade compliance initiatives, trade regulations, or other compliance initiatives as required and work with legal and business units to formulate best solutions and strategies
- Assist in compliance-related training initiatives including training material development and delivering presentations to various departments and business units
- Support the standardization of trade compliance processes and assist with trade compliance-related matters relevant to the North/South American offices
- Perform Restricted Party Screening and Enhanced Due Diligence processes and identify improvements as necessary
- Support and assist with other aspects of the Compliance teamwork as required, such as compliance audits and visits, reviews, awareness, and training on the GXO Code of Business Ethics and its associated policies
- Review licensed transactions and maintain accurate records for global shipments to sanctioned countries
- Participate and provide input on new business proposals
- Research and respond to requests for information and assistance from the business units
- Maintain effective relationships with the business units, vendors, and customers
- The role will require travel within Canada, Mexico, USA, and South America
At a minimum, you'll need:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- 4+ years of experience as a trade compliance professional
- Significant knowledge of trade compliance and customs law
- Possess good working knowledge of ITAR, EAR, Free Trade Zones (FTZ's), and Bonded Warehouses
- Significant knowledge about United States economic sanctions regulations, with particular emphasis on the Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC) sanctions and general knowledge about U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry Security (BIS) and U.S. State Department, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) export control regulations
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Travel Requirement: up to 25%
- Licensed Customs Broker, strongly preferred
- Knowledge of the logistics and/or supply chain business
- Experience working with 3PL customers on import and export issues
- Familiar with CTPAT
- Knowledge of US Export control procedures
- Free trade qualification experience (USMCA and IMMEX)
- Forwarding/Brokering experience
- AES application experience
- Thorough knowledge of internal company software applications applicable to position
- Familiarity with the most widely known and emerging tools, technologies, and social applications
- Familiarity with various Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)
