UCI Health hematologic oncologists provide expert consultation and treatment for patients with many different types of cancer. UCI Health hematologic oncologists provide consultation and treatment for patients with many different types of cancer, These include including malignancies of the blood such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, as well as solid tumor carcinomas such as colon, breast and prostate.
People diagnosed with cancer typically need a range of medical specialists, treatments and services, all of which are available at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, Orange County's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.
We also offer the only adult hematopoietic stem-cell transplant services in Orange County, which means that patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other cancers no longer need to travel long distances for this life-saving treatment.
Our oncologists are highly skilled in the leading-edge treatments and many also participate in clinical trials. We are recognized for delivering the highest quality care by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, which is an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
The position of Nurse Practitioner II in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Division, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be a critical part of the team caring for patients. This position will support the Laguna Hills Infusion Center at UCI Health – Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in Laguna Hills. Under the supervision of Medical Director(s) and the Nurse Practitioner Supervisor, and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the Nurse Practitioner will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory setting and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. A Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) who possesses the advanced education, knowledge, clinical skills and experience necessary to provide advanced nursing care in their area of specialization.
This position may perform:
Functions as appropriate to their “scope of practice” (In general, the “scope of practice” includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per their approved standardized procedure). Familiarity with state statute for their licenses is necessary.
Approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges
The NP professional may provide patient care in age groups based on educational preparation and at all Health licensed settings and affiliates.
The NP has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within the all Health locations and affiliates.
Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) are required to be credentialed to practice and be privileged through Medical Staff to function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day.
The NP is accountable to, evaluated, and provided feedback by the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, or the Administrative Manager.

Required:
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.

- Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information.
- Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Educational training and/or experience to support setting and patient population.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- NP National Board Certification (Beginning February 2018): Family/Individual FNP-BC or FNP-C
- NP National Board Certification: Adult/Gerontology AGPCNP-BC or AGNP-C
- NP National Board Certification: Adult Gerontology Acute Care AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG
- NP National Board Certification: Adult NP-BC or Adult NP-C
- Current BLS certification and ACLS certification.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Certification (ACONP) and/or ONS Chemotherapy Certification (obtained within 3 months of hire).
- Hematology/Oncology Experience (at least 2 or more years)
Preferred:
- Infusion Center Experience
- Experience caring for patients enrolled in clinical trials and functioning as a sub-investigator.
Special Conditions:
- Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
- May require weekend and/or holiday shifts, depending on patient care and operational needs.
