Compensation: Non-exempt, $23.62/HR-$34.01/HR

Job Summary:
Provides nursing care to patients and their families; performs nursing duties under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse. Scope of practice is limited to that which is within the student’s level of training as certified by the school of nursing and in accordance with hospital policy.
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Performs patient care duties within the nurse tech scope of practice, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists RNs and other healthcare providers in implementing the plan of care by performing common therapeutic nursing techniques as appropriate to level of training, which may include; oral and topical medications, and ointments; nose, ear, eye drops and ointments; dressing changes, urinary catheterization, suppositories, enemas; ostomy care and gastrostomy care in established healing conditions; blood glucose monitoring.Under RN supervision, formulates an individualized plan of care as indicated, evaluates for effectiveness, and reports to RN.Anticipates changes in patient care needs. Communicates and documents changes in patient condition, on a timely basis, to RN.Correctly administers medications and IV fluids, based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition, as supervised by RN. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.Assists in organizing nursing activities in a manner that considers patient needs and the needs of the facility and staff.Safely administers prescribed treatments, PO and IM medications, as delegated by RN. (Nurse Techs shall NOT administer chemotherapy, blood or blood products, IV medications, and scheduled drugs; no procedures or medications involving central lines.)Assists in formulating a teaching plan, based on identified patient learning needs, and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate, from admission to discharge under RN supervision.Serves as a patient advocate. Exercises discretion in the management of patient information and assures strict patient confidentiality.Responds to emergency situations in a calm and supportive manner. Maintains composure and professional demeanor in stressful situations.Performs all aspects of patient care in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors; documents according to established standards; communicates effectively.Develops and maintains professional and clinical skills. Completes all annual competency and education requirements within established parameters and timeframes. Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services and other professional activities. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled in good standing in a nursing program approved by the Nursing Commission and has not yet graduated, or is a graduate nurse within the past 30 days. Must provide ongoing written documentation of training from the nursing school.Student clinical experience in acute or long-term care facility.
Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:
Nurse Technician registration with Washington State Department of Health required.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.PI251785181
