POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Training, the Nutritional Educator is responsible for providing clinical nutrition and dietary training to individuals receiving services, as well as the community providers. This position will conduct outreach to the community to identify nutritional training needs for the public. This position is funded through a grant opportunity awarded by The Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA).
Responsibilities:DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates the SNAP Education grant through the OTDA.
- Conducts nutritional trainings at agency and community-based locations.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and grant compliance
- Collaborates with providers and Interdisciplinary Teams to identify and connect with individuals receiving services through FREE in need of nutrition counseling and education.
- Maintains strict and accurate records for grant reporting purposes.
- Develops and conducts healthy cooking classes for individuals supported and the community.
- Responsible to provide information regarding food-drug relationships to participants.
- Assists with observations of the meals prepared for individuals to ensure they meet appropriate nutritional standards.
- Teach and train good eating habits.
- Provides training to team members on nutrition recommendations as needed.
- Identifies ways to improve care of individuals receiving services through FREE and make recommendations to Medical Director, Nurse Administrators and program teams.
- Participates in various agency committees, as required.
- Actively keeps up with the latest nutritional research and integrates new findings into diet plans and nutrition service as a way to expand and improve nutrition services.
- Works collaboratively with staff and the community to foster changes and promote healthier life styles.
- Provides assessments/nutritional consults as needed.
- Must be comfortable presenting.
- Ability to travel locally.
- Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed /processed appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Food/Nutrition Services Management, or similar nutrition focused degree.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in the nutrition field.
- OMH and/or OPWDD experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Computer literate – knowledgeable of Microsoft Office and Internet.
- Ability to work independently and strong advocacy skills.
- Ability to travel among sites on Long Island.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License a must.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is performed in-person.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employee is required to sit, walk and stand for prolonged period of time (at least 8 hours).
- Employee is required to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Employee is required to operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax and filing cabinets.
- Employee is required to reach with hands and arms.
- Employee is required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or stand on a stool as needed.
- Employee is required to be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.

The Pay Range for this job is $62,500. This range is based on what FREE reasonably believes it will pay an employee as for said position at the time of the posting. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s experience, qualifications, services provided, geographic location, relevant skills, and other factors permitted under federal, state, and local laws.
