About the Job
The ideal candidate will have expertise in outside plant (OSP) domain knowledge, particularly in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) engineering, and experience in pole survey activities using tools like Katapult. They should also be proficient in make-ready engineering, pole loading analysis, and familiar with OCALC for ensuring compliance with pole load regulations. A strong understanding of GIS systems is required, with a preference for candidates experienced with QGIS and spatial databases such as PostGIS. The candidate should be capable of performing advanced spatial analysis, have a solid grasp of coordinate systems, GIS data formats, and possess the ability to programmatically solve spatial problems and automate data analysis using Python. They should have a demonstrated ability to think logically about technical challenges, with the ability to break down and resolve issues independently. Candidate is expected to be highly autonomous, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong project management and time management skills. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential. Must be willing/able to travel 10% of the time.
Key Technical Skills & Experience:
- Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Engineering: Deep knowledge of fiber network design and construction, including splicing, routing, and pole loading analysis.
- Pole Survey and Make-Ready Engineering: Hands-on experience with pole surveys (e.g., using Katapult) and engineering for make-ready processes, as well as familiarity with OCALC for load analysis.
- GIS Expertise: Proficiency in GIS platforms, especially QGIS, with the ability to perform complex spatial analyses and process large datasets. Knowledge of spatial databases (e.g., PostGIS) and GIS data formats.
- Programming and Automation: Experience with Python for automating GIS workflows, spatial problem-solving, and data analysis. Ability to streamline and optimize processes programmatically.
- Coordinate Systems: Solid understanding of various coordinate systems and the ability to manipulate and transform GIS data between them.
General Responsibilities & Skills:
- Understanding of Construction Techniques: Strong understanding of both underground and aerial construction techniques for fiber optic networks.
- OSP/ISP Cabling & Routing: Experience in outside and inside plant cabling design, routing, and engineering methodologies.
- Process Optimization: Ability to evaluate existing workflows, as well as optimize and create automated processes for increased efficiency and better project delivery.
- Project & Time Management: Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and work across multiple time zones.
- Collaboration & Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface with both internal and external stakeholders, including engineering firms, construction vendors, customers, and internal teams such as the sales team, the OSP team, and the business development team.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain fiber optic infrastructure using GIS and related tools.
- Create engineering designs and documentation, such as single-line drawings, cable routing, and splicing work packages.
- Perform GIS data audits and ingestion for accuracy and completeness.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders, including construction vendors and engineering firms, to align project goals.
- Optimize processes to improve workflow efficiency and delivery timelines.
Basic Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience in IT, GIS, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience working with GIS systems, including spatial databases and complex analysis.
- 2 years of experience in project or program management, with a proven ability to work effectively at all organizational levels.
- 2 years of experience in outside/inside plant engineering, with a focus on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with programming languages (e.g. Python) to assist in data and GIS analysis and process automation.
- Familiarity with PostGIS, QGIS, and spatial analysis techniques.
- Experience with pole loading analysis tools, such as OCALC.
- Proficiency in make-ready engineering, pole survey techniques, and GIS data optimization.
- Understanding unit costs of fiber construction
Travel Requirement:
- -Willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

Location Requirement:
- The ideal candidate will have a dedicated home office space that is quiet, distraction-free, and allows for reliable and professional virtual communication. A high-speed internet connection (minimum 100 Mbps) is required. Candidates in Colorado (Boulder, Louisville, or Denver area) preferred, however, eligible candidates must be based in the continental U.S.
