GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy to neonates, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Evaluates, treats and plans patient care in accordance with Occupational Therapy standards, taking into account the needs of the patient as it pertains to the age and diagnosis of the patient.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Experience
" Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Patient/Staff/Environmental Safety
" Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety. Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
Job Specific Duties
" Provides evaluation utilizing tests/measures to arrive at clinical assessment of patient s condition.
" Processes information gathered during evaluation to establish an appropriate treatment plan.
" Establishes the treatment plan in accordance with the needs of specific age groups in terms of their physical and motor development, psychosocial development and intellectual/language development.
" Performs ongoing re-evaluation of patient s response to treatment, determining appropriate modifications and timely discharge.
" Clinically supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA) in carrying out treatment plan.
" Provides adequate documentation for purposes of justifying reimbursement to third party payers, establishing baseline data and subsequent progress, and recording of treatment.
" Communicates to other therapists and health professionals regarding patient status and progress.
" Attends committees, assignments, in services and special projects as assigned and appropriate.
" Works in more than one patient care area: inpatient, outpatient, rehab unit, skilled nursing facilities, home health, and contract services.

" Maintains department specific accountabilities as determined, maintained, and housed within each unit s Scope of Service.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education
" Knowledge of occupational therapy standards and practices normally acquired through a minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Experience
" Previous experience as an Occupational Therapist beneficial.
Required
" Current Wisconsin Occupational Therapy license required.
" Current CPR certification or obtained within 90 days of hire - All clinical personnel in identified job codes are required to maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training through independent study, manikin and knowledge testing. An acceptable CPR training program is the Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider course from the American Heart Association or the client Professional Rescuer Program with AED. (See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training, Policy #7087).
