Hours: Per diem, weekdays, and some early evenings
The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in function due to changes due to injury, disease or other conditions that impact activities of daily living, mobility and independence. Plans, organizes and directs patients in recommended activities that improve and manage their conditions and restore or increase functional independence, mobility and comfort
Responsibilities:Essential Functions
- Evaluates, plans and implements treatment programs for referred patients according to accepted principles and practices of occupational therapy.
- Designs an appropriate plan of care that integrates goals, treatment, outcomes, and discharge plan. Adjusts the care based on patient response and available evidence.
- Collaborates with providers, nurses, other therapy providers and vendors.
- Educates patients and family regarding treatment plans.
- Provides services effectively and efficiently to minimize backups in patient flow.
- Completes documentation pertaining to evaluation and treatment to meet regulatory requirements including interventions provided in combination with patient response
- Documents accurate charges on all patients on a timely basis.
- Initiates appropriate schedule changes on a timely basis.
- Provides in-service training to teammates as needed or directed.
- Assists in training students as needed
- Provides supervision and direction to Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehab Services Technicians and secretarial teammates. Serves as a resource and role model
- Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable
- Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
- Participates in performance improvement activities
- Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service and patient care, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm when under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems. Relates to patients in a compassionate and sincere manner.
- Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
- Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely and consistently uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others
- Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors. Attends all H.E.A.R.T trainings.
- Provides coverage when needed at other locations within Heywood Healthcare.
- Completes all Annual Mandatory Education requirements and any other required mandatory education. (i.e. malpractice)
- Participates in meeting Quality measures, tracking and reporting.
- All other duties and locations as assigned.
Functional Demands
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequently reaches (extending hands and arms in any direction), and handles (seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or working with hands).
Qualifications:Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited curriculum in Occupational Therapy.
Experience
- Prior experience preferred, but new graduates encouraged to apply
Licenses and Certifications
- Current State license or eligible
- BLS required or must obtain within 90 days of employment
Required Skills
- Knowledge of contemporary and evidence-based OT practices.Ability to interpret clinician prescriptions and referrals.
- Ability to motivate, educate and encourage patients.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals or teammates..
- Proficient with computers and software, with the ability to learn new software rapidly
