New Mexico has a long history of midwifery care, which in part has led to supportive environments for the independent practice of midwives and other advanced practice registered nurses.The state is ranked second in the U.S. for midwifery care integration into its healthcare system, and midwives attended 26.7% of all vaginal births last year.The integration of midwifery in New Mexico has contributed to positive outcomes, such as higher rates of spontaneous vaginal birth, vaginal birth after cesarean, and breastfeeding, and lower rates of preterm birth, low-birth weight, and neonatal death.New Mexico is a leader in supporting access to reproductive health services and gender affirming care.

We are currently recruiting a faculty member for the Midwifery Program Coordinator position. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum in accordance with Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) and for working with the Assistant Dean of Professional Graduate Programs to oversee the midwifery program in collaboration with midwifery faculty, within the CON faculty governance structure. The Midwifery Program Coordinator will lead and facilitate the establishment of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) Endowed Professorship of $500,000 to enhance efforts for recruitment and retention of faculty specializing in midwifery, perinatal health, maternal-child health, and womens health. The Midwifery Coordinator will also serve as the inaugural BCBSNM Endowed Professor in Midwifery.

The Midwifery Program Coordinator provides leadership and administration for planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nurse-midwifery program.Responsibilities include teaching, guidance in academic matters, and securing clinical placements to ensure student success and achieve program goals. In addition, this role requires active engagement in mentoring, recruitment and marketing, as well as alumni and community outreach.

The incoming faculty will teach and maintain a portion of their time in clinical practice. Excellence in teaching and clinical practice are both fundamental components of our CON mission.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in nursing
• Doctoral degree in a related field
• Three years of recent midwifery practice experience
• Clinical and/or didactic teaching experience
• Active midwifery license and national certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• Leadership and/or management experience
• Experience working with rural and/or underserved populations
• Experience in program administration and/or curriculum development
• Experience teaching in a midwifery program
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
