Job Overview:
The Senior Operational Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and day-to-day management of the company s operational systems and IT infrastructure. In this role, you will ensure the stability, security, and efficiency of network, server, and software systems that support the business s core operations. You will also take a leadership role in troubleshooting complex issues, driving system improvements, and managing critical infrastructure projects.
This role requires a strong foundation in systems administration, a proactive approach to identifying and resolving operational issues, and a commitment to optimizing performance and scalability in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
" System Administration: Manage and maintain core IT systems, including servers, networks, storage, and applications to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability.
" Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitor system performance, network availability, and critical IT services. Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues and ensure high levels of system uptime.
" Security Management: Implement and enforce security protocols, manage firewall configurations, monitor for threats, and ensure systems are compliant with relevant security standards.
" System Optimization & Upgrades: Plan and execute system updates, upgrades, patches, and configuration changes to improve performance and support business growth.
" Backup & Disaster Recovery: Develop, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and system resilience in case of failure.
" Automation & Efficiency: Automate repetitive tasks to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual work, leveraging scripting or other automation tools.
" Documentation: Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration settings, and operational procedures.
" Project Leadership: Lead or contribute to system-related projects, including new technology implementations, infrastructure upgrades, and migrations, ensuring alignment with business objectives and timelines.
" Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT support, developers, and network engineers, to maintain system stability and support new initiatives.
" Vendor Management: Manage relationships with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure service-level agreements (SLAs) are met and systems are adequately supported.
Qualifications:
" Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
" Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
" Soft Skills:
o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
o Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
o Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical teams.
o Leadership abilities to mentor junior administrators and provide guidance to the IT team.
o Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions in fast-paced environments.
