Title: MTO Operations Manager
Reporting to: Vice President of Engineering
Summary:
Supervise and direct prototype and small lot production machinists and, in coordination with, other technical and manufacturing personnel to ensure efficient and on-time production schedules in accordance with safety and quality standards. Provide leadership, motivation, accountability, and direction to department personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and sets priority of production schedule, directs and assigns duties for prototype machinists; schedules and authorizes overtime as necessary to meet delivery requirements.
- Ensures manufacture of products and processes in response to product design specifications that meets established standards.
- Assures all engineering and manufacturing processes comply with applicable regulatory requirements and company established quality system requirements.
- Ensures proper operation and maintenance of department related equipment.
- Makes recommendations for capital investments to support department growth and technology advances.
- Participates in recruiting, hiring and promotes an environment for training and skills development of department personnel.

- Responsible for direct management of department personnel including annual written employee evaluations, one-on-one performance reviews and salary adjustment recommendations.
- Works closely with engineering and customers as necessary to ensure all customer requirements are met.
- Continually evaluates ways to minimize lead times and improve responsiveness to customers.
- Leads department Production Meetings.
- Works with machinists and leads to ensure efficient manufacturing processes are being employed.
- Overall responsibility for development and growth of MTO business, and supporting resources including personnel, infrastructure, and capabilities.
- Assures the OSHA regulations and EPA regulations are being met.
- Manages non-product projects and Capital equipment purchases as required by the President.
- Engage in contract review of new product opportunities to ensure timely and efficient processing so that product service and delivery commitments are achieved.
- Ensure manufacture of products is in compliance with design specifications.
- Acts as liaison to quoting and estimating group for customer proposals.
- Support QA and QC with customer complaints and product defect/failure investigations.
- Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities and initiatives in manufacturing.
- Provide technical support and ensure all required training of manufacturing related processes, equipment, and resources has been performed and kept up to date.
- Assists in determining production layouts and construction or expansion to production facilities.
- Works closely with Quality Assurance to ensure plant wide compliance to current FDA QSR’s and the Company’s Quality Management Systems.
- Responsible for assuring activities are performed in accordance with the Company’s Quality System procedures.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering related field and six to ten years of experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of Management experience in a sophisticated manufacturing business, preferably with experience in machining products (ideally precision instruments and/or components).
- Exposure to organizational building in a growth/expansion phase, instituting controls and procedures, operations, new business development, customer relationship management and management information systems.
- Experience working with or supervising labor forces in a cooperative manner.
- Formal training in process improvement program such as Six Sigma, Lean or Continuous improvement.
- Experience working within the medical device manufacturing environment.
