Position Overview: Ophthalmology technician work with ophthalmologists, medical doctors who specialize in the diagnoses and treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Ophthalmology technician work in a number of capacities, including assisting during eye surgery and setting up and performing maintenance on equipment. In addition, ophthalmology technician often perform diagnostic testing, including measuring a patient's vision, checking eye pressure, motility, and other task requested by the doctor.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient's visual status by
maintaining an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient quality eye care
- The ophthalmic technician is able to effectively perform appropriate clinical testing by previous form education
and or clinical experience which allows an understanding of the theory, principals of eye care
- Visual acuity measurement
- Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
- Refraction
- Measure pupil size and reactivity
- Test and measure eye muscle function
- Visual field testing
- Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
- Surgical assisting
- Performed other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Ophthalmic experience in full service ophthalmic setting
- COA certification or greater is a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solver with analytical skills.
- Personable; empathetic with patient's needs and concerns.
- Well-organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a team member
- Internal candidates must be employed for a minimum of six consecutive months to be eligible to apply.
