Job Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties that prepare the patient to see the doctor. It is direct patient care, with on the job training.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Obtain medical and eye history from patient
- Documenting information using an EMR (electronic medical record)
- Prepare examination and treatment rooms
- Perform screening and testing to prepare the patient for the doctor's exam. This includes:
- Visual acuity
- Color vision screening
- Auto and manual lensometry
- Auto and manual refraction
- Tonometry
- Amsler grid
- Pupil evaluation
- Other testing as needed
- Administer eye medications
- May assist physicians during minor surgical procedures
- Maintain and calibrate ophthalmic equipment
- Refill and prescribe medication on doctor's behalf
- Complete prior authorizations for patient medication
- Travel to other locations is necessary

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- We are willing to train
- Medical experience preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, walking, lifting
- Ability to see, hear and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks
- Driving independently to other facilities
