Since 1948, patients from throughout the greater Los Angeles area have found cutting-edge eye care at the Santa Monica Eye Medical Group, located in Santa Monica, California. The practice's founders, John E. Gilmore, MD, and Donald E. Dickerson, MD, developed the very first course in cataract intraocular lens surgery. Currently led by Dr. Sadiqa Stelzner, associate professor at UCLA, the doctors at the practice offer not only state-of-the-art eye care ranging from advanced surgical procedures including laser refractive surgery (LASIK), refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery (ReLACS), and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and exams for glasses and contact lenses. We also specialize in a variety of aesthetic treatments to address scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, melasma, etc. As another convenience to our patients, we have on-site a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center.

JOB BRIEF
The Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician provides each patient with a warm and professional experience. They transition patients from the front desk to exams and diagnostic testing, then to the Optometrist or Ophthalmologist, then to our optical floor for contacts, frames and lenses.
The Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician consistently delivers an exceptional experience, while ensuring that all optical quality controls are in compliance. This individual works closely with patients, doctors and the office staff to provide accurate, timely, and responsive documentation of patient consultations, prescriptions and sales transactions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with patient care and eye exams.
- Performs various tests to aid the optometrist with vision examinations.
- Handles and files all patient records in an efficient manner in accordance with practice standards and HIPAA.
- Performs work accurately and thoroughly despite time pressure and patient volume.
- Takes and records accurate measurements.
- Adapts to various examination scenarios.
- Responsible for maintenance and disinfection of equipment.
- Consistently maintains proper dress code.
- Refers patients to the Optometrist and Ophthalmologist for follow-up treatments as required.
- Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.
- Transitions patient from doctor to Optical floor with a warm intro to our Optician.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the office staff and Doctors.
- Adheres to policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 2+ years experience in retail Optical consultation and sales.
- Knowledge of current optical theory and practices.
- High school diploma required; Associate college degree preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the workings optical medical offices.
- Knowledge and understanding of optical medical terminology.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical records software a big plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, fax, printers, scanners, and other office software.
- Experience working in retail optical software systems.
- Knowledge of billing for VSP and EyeMed helpful.
- Must have a sense of style. Worked with independent luxury eyewear brands.
