complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with
or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

a working title. The NAU system title for this position is
Recreation Coordinator, Senior.
- Ability to work weekends on a consistent basis. This position will
require extensive time in the field and a flexible work schedule
including weekends.
Job Description
Under the direction and supervision of the Outdoor Adventures Recreation
Manager, this position is responsible for the coordination of the
Outdoor Adventures Trip Program within the department of Campus
Recreation. This position will aid the Outdoor Recreation Manager in all
aspects of managing a highly successful adventure program which includes
operational support of trip logistics and programming, warehouse
operations, and equipment rentals.
Program Coordination - 30%
- Plan, develop and coordinate operations, scheduling, and logistics
for field-based and collaborative programs.
- Supervise adventure trip staff in the field and aid student staff in
trip planning and management, as well as guide assessment and
evaluation.
- Assist the Manager with all aspects of trip-related risk and assess
staff on trip-specific skills and knowledge through single-day to
multi-day trips in the field.
- Oversee warehouse equipment and inventory; coordinate maintenance
schedules and equipment replacement plans.
- Responsible for obtaining special use permits through various
land-use agencies and maintaining permits and land management
relationships.
Program Management - 25%
- Assist with field-based decisions on allocating resources to enhance
program operations, including trip-related purchases such as
equipment, permits, food, and rentals.
- Administer instructional programming fostering environmental
awareness, respect, and sustainable practices.
- Enforce a comprehensive risk management plan throughout the program
planning process to emphasize safety and preparedness for staff and
participants.
- Coordinate pre-trip preparation with trip leaders including route
planning, menu/food shopping, prepping group gear and guide gear,
reviewing emergency action plans, and assisting with the pre-trip
briefing meeting for trip participants.
- Assist with the development of program training manuals and
materials including safety and risk management practices to meet
national standards and University policy.
- Responsible for purchases of trip related costs, inventory items,
equipment, and reconciling as needed.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining program assessments and data,
roster management, evaluations, academic success tracking, and
year-end accomplishments.
Supervision - 20%
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 10 - 15 qualified
federal work study and student wage employees and non-student
emp oyees to support outdoor offerings and experiences.
- Create and implement detailed packing lists for a range of
field-based trips and coordinate plans to rig and de-rig each trip
with designated staff.
- Occasionally serve as a Manager-on-Duty to provide support to trip
leaders in emergency/non-emergency situations, with the direction of
the program Manager, Campus Recreation leadership, and Student
Affairs leadership.
Program Collaboration - 20%
- Serve as a liaison for Outdoor Adventures social media plans and web
page management and maintenance, working collaboratively with
marketing staff to ensure accuracy of information and relevant
updates.
- Contribute to the overall marketing and promotional efforts of the
Outdoor Adventures program.
- Create and maintain a supportive and culturally rich, diverse, and
inclusive environment for staff and participants.
- Engages in department, division, and university responsibilities.
- Collaborates with department colleagues.
- Participates in division committees as requested (e.g. Student
Affairs Assessment Team).
- Participates in division and department meetings.
Other - 5%
Act as a representative and liaison for Campus Recreation and other
university departments.
