Overnight ICU Veterinary Technician

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists is looking for experienced veterinary technicians to join our overnight team. The OSVS team is made up of a talented yet fun group of veterinary professionals who truly care about their patients and clients. Position Overview:
Technicians perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure quality patient care. Technicians should be proficient in intermediate nursing duties including but not limited to patient assessment and monitoring, phlebotomy, IVC placement, medication/fluid administration, post-operative patient recovery, medical calculations and more. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of emergency and critical care and the ability remain calm during stressful situations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate nursing care to critical patients
- Triage emergency patients and obtain pertinent medical history
- Administration of medications, fluids, and blood products
- Use of advanced ICU equipment (i.e. Snyder Oxygen cages, wireless telemetry unit)
- Use and monitoring of patients on mechanical ventilation, continuous-suction chest tube, tracheostomy tubes, etc.
- Placement and maintenance of NG tubes, nasal oxygen lines, central lines, indwelling urinary catheters, etc.
- Monitoring of patients under sedation and general anesthesia
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Tech school graduate or at least 2 years recent experience in veterinary practice
- Veterinary Technician certification is preferred
- Patient care experience required
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills
- Compassion and love of animals
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong veterinary knowledge and skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Starting wage for non-credentialed technicians range from $20 to $30 per hour (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- Starting wage for Certified technicians range from $22 to $32 per hour (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- Starting wage for certified Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) ranges from $29 to $37 (varies based on formal education, previous professional experience, and current skills/knowledge).
- $5 per hour shift differential for all 2nd and 3rd shift hours worked after 8pm

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI with a satellite facility in Swansea, MA. OSVS is a 35,000 sf building with a very busy emergency service, a nationally-respected internship and residency program, and specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI.
