OBJECTIVE
Perform equipment receipt, inspection, repair, testing and packaging following the company’s quality standards, SOPs and safety guidelines. This position disassembles PHEs, cleans and rebuilds to new standard.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
- Assist in shipping, receiving, counting, labeling and distribution of Alfa Laval parts/customer equipment
- Uncrates, assist in removing gaskets, disassembles - put plates on hook, submerge in liquid nitrogen, after removed, stack plates on skid in preparation for chemical dip
- Maintains a solid knowledge base of Alfa Laval approved SOPs/WIs for all PHE processes
- Accurately completes PHE Service Reports, and read PLA/Drawings as job moves through shop
- Dye penetration inspection process - take plate into room, spray die on one side and inspect under black light for holes, cracks or other irregularities in plates. After dye pen inspection, rinse remaining dye from plates
- Cleans units (pressure wash), paints if specified.
- Able to perform and complete, as well as give accurate and professional direction on all PHE reconditioning processes, including opening framed units, gasket removal, dye penetration, pressure washing, gasketing, oven curing, inspecting, repairing, packing, installing plates, closing, and pressure testing
- For framed units – attach unit to water and/or compressed air for hydro test. Perform test and record data on inspection sheet
- Diagnose and troubleshoot quality issues on customer equipment, and effectively communicate AL parts and workmanship quality concerns
- Moves material as needed via forklifts, overhead cranes, mobile tables, hand trucks, etc.
- Recognizes and communicates the need for replenishment of supplies, tools, need repair parts and other facility needs to applicable personnel in a timely manner
- Update daily shop production schedule as individual processes are completed
- Directly responsible for keeping work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized. Performs housekeeping as required at the facility to maintain a professional presentation – (follows 5S standards)
- Lead On-The-Job training for PHE personnel as directed on all AL approved SOP’s/WI’s
- Perform daily safety tasks (i.e. daily forklift inspections, lock out/tag out, under hook chain/sling inspections, First Responder duties, Safety Committee meetings & duties)
- Review active projects in shop to ensure all needed equipment and parts are on hand for production
- Assist in assembling work floor job packets and confirm all required documentation is present
- Effectively utilizes AL programs (Installed Base, ALSO, OPTO, AL Service Tools, etc.) to retrieve documents and update job status as needed
- Communicates with customer service and other service centers on parts shortages, supply needs, questions with orders, etc. as needed
- Effectively drive ALPS Performance and Improvement meetings, and positively participate in all ALPS and improvement initiatives
- Performs other duties as directed by Management

The PHE Mechanic reports to the Service Center Manager or Supervisor. Must work unsupervised performing job responsibilities as trained and instructed. Works effectively in a strong team environment; continually seeking ways to improve repair process (continuous improvement) and techniques. Cooperates with team leader (or designee) and must be able to interact in a professional manner with administrative staff and co-workers.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION DESIRED:
- Education (degree or years) and/or Certification/Registration:
High School degree or Equivalent.
- Type and Length of Experience:
Experience in a manual shop environment, preferred but not necessary
Experience operating fork lift trucks, hand pallet jacks and overhead cranes, preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes Desired in Candidate:
Able to use measuring devices (tape measure, depth micrometer) as required
Good hand eye coordination
Flexible, Team Player
Basic hand tool experience and application
Ability to follow directions, with strong attention to detail
Read, write and effectively communicate in the English language
Basic computer knowledge, basic MS office skills (clocking in and out, scanning bar codes, taking photos)
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment and/or motor vehicle use):
Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. as required
- Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces, exposure):

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Travel may be requested for field service work (not a requirement)
