_What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health_
Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.
Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers may also consult with and advise healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes.
_Job Summary_
The Senior Pharmacy Technician provides assistance to the Pharmacist in the daily operations of the pharmacy, including the preparation of and filling of prescriptions, taking pharmacy inventory, and processing product returns. Applying a high degree of experience and capability as a pharmacy technician. The Senior Pharmacy Technician ensures that all orders are reviewed by the Pharmacist and records all activity in compliance with regulatory and company guidelines. This job frequently communicates with customers to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment of all orders. Technicians assist and support licensed pharmacists in providing health care and medications to patients. The technician must have a broad knowledge of pharmacy practice, and be skilled in the techniques required to order, stock, package, and compound and otherwise prepare medications.
_Responsibilities_
+ Assists pharmacists in filling prescription orders, as permitted by State Boards of Pharmacy.
+ Fills physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts, stock requisitions and automated dispensing system refill lists accurately.
+ Replenishes medications in emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
+ Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
+ Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques including aseptic manipulations, garbing procedures, and aseptic work practices.
+ Prepares chemotherapy intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques including aseptic manipulations, garbing procedures, and aseptic work practices.
+ Help train new technicians.
+ Assist with the purchase of drugs and supplies in accordance with GPO bids and Cardinal Health best demonstrated practices.
+ Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
+ Inputs medical supply orders, patient data, and prescription information into the pharmacy information management system.
+ Assist in the process for patient and department charges, and that they are accurately and timely posted to accounts.
+ Generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
+ Answers the telephone, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel.
+ Answers requests at the window and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
+ Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; files documentation in appropriate locations.
+ Demonstrates competence in automated dispensing equipment and adheres to established processes and procedures.
+ Attends and participates in departmental meetings, in-services, and quality improvement programs.
+ Maintains all required training and education per department requirements (e.g. mySpark, myLearning, Continuing Education).
+ Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control. Complies with all applicable state, local and federal regulations.
+ Other duties as assigned.
_Qualifications_
+ High school degree or equivalent preferred.
+ Maine Pharmacy Technician license/registration or ability to obtain.
+ IV experience.
+ Chemotherapy experience.
+ National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB) highly preferred.
+ 2+ years pharmacy technician experience highly preferred.
+ Inpatient/hospital experience preferred.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Strong customer service skills.
+ Demonstrated ability to use technology such as computers, smart phones and tablets.

+ Maintains appropriate licenses, training and certifications.

+ Work occasionally involves review of output by work lead or supervisor.
+ May provide general guidance or technical assistance to less experienced team members.
Anticipated hourly range: $21.50 per hour - $30.70 per hour (includes shift differential).
