Responsibilities:The Program Assistant of Fitness and Wellness is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day administration and staffing of the Personal Training, Group Fitness, and Wellness Programs.
This position will work on-site at our UAB location in the heart of this urban campus. University Recreation (URec) provides fitness, wellness, and recreational opportunities for the UAB community and beyond.
Core Responsibilities:
Assist in managing a comprehensive Fitness and Wellness program to include: Personal Training, Group Fitness Instructors, Wellness Team.
Ensure high standards of facility and program maintenance and cleanliness.
Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating all Personal Trainers and group fitness Instructors.
- Assist in planning and implementing multiple events and fitness programs throughout the year.
Provide managerial and leadership experiences in program operations and create professional development opportunities for Personal Trainers and group fitness Instructors.
Develop multiple fitness programs and challenges throughout the year to encourage healthy and active lifestyles.
Assist in oversight of the Personal Trainers and group fitness Instructors based on previous experience.
Attend mandatory meetings, including full-staff and assigned committee meetings
Site Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist in teaching the NASM Certified Personal Trainer Prep Course.
Education and Experience:
- Must be in good standings with the university
- At least 1 year (or 2 semesters) of experience in fitness, wellness, or recreation type setting
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO) Certification
- Current accredited group fitness instructor or personal trainer certification preferred
Skills and Abilities:
- Leadership and supervisory abilities
- Ability to work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications
- Ability to communicate effectively with student and non-student staff
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively and efficiently
Work Environment
- Office environment/ fitness center environment
- Non-smoking environment
- Moderate to loud noise
- Evening or weekend work as needed
Physical Demands
- Sitting at desk or table for at least 50% of the workday
- Walking or working with recreation spaces 50% of the workday
- Repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement (while operating computer equipment)
- Bending, stooping
- Eye-hand coordination (keyboard typing)
- Ability to withstand extended periods of activity and communicating
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. on a regular basis
