Description
The Application Engineer will be the primary owner of compatibility topics between PV and BOS (Eg, racking, tracker, inverter, MLPE, etc), as well as providing pre-sales and after-sales support to customers. In addition to solving any certification and qualification issues, this position will be the contact for expert opinions on compatibility, both internally and externally. Although this position is based in Irvine or the Santa Clara / Bay Area, CA, it requires up to 20% traveling. It will report to the Applications Engineering Manager within PV Solutions Engineering team or an assigned lead.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Align with the factories and other organizations on technology roadmap, product offering, product features, and product introduction timelines;
- Own PV application topics, including racking compatibility, inverter compatibility, module-level power electronics compatibility, code compliance
- Be the internal and external contact person for expert advice, compatibility sign-off, and system design assistance on mechanical, structural, and electrical system design topics;
- Pre-sales application engineering support to the internal teams and customers, including testing application cases, creating application notes, providing application guidance to customers, and assisting in closing sales deals
- After-sales application engineering supports internal teams and customers, including assisting customers in their project designs, constructions, commissioning, operations, maintenance, complaints, warranty coverage processing, field trouble-shooting and factory quality improvements
- Provide product training and promote Qcells North America solutions to customers and the sales team; represent Qcells North America at trade shows and conferences
- Stay up to date on PV technologies and industry trends by taking part in technical meetings and industry shows
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BS Degree in Engineering or Physical sciences (including Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Physics) with 6 years of relevant experience, or a MS Degree in Engineering or Physical sciences (including Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Physics) with 4 years of relevant experience in the PV or racking industries
- Must be an expert of at least one, and knowledgeable about at least an additional one of the following areas:
- PV racking for applications in the residential, C&I, and utility segments
- Inverter, micro-inverter, optimizer, electrical system components
- Testing, certification, and qualification of PV and racking
- PV products, manufacturing, and quality
- Familiarity with US product safety and, building codes, electrical codes, as well as PV and racking certification standards
- Demonstrated successful customer support track records in a fast-paced tech industry
- Extensive experience working with cross-functional teams and individuals of diverse backgrounds
- Strong professional integrity and sense of ownership of statements and assignments
- Self-motivated, requires minimum supervision, and has a proven track record of reliability and work ethic
- Take assignments with a sense of urgency; deliver solutions and results on time; can-do mentality, pro-active working attitude, and hands-on approach
- Good communication skills with customers, management, and internal teams
- Excellent command of English
- Good business acumen; strong sense of technical issues, customer service, and business result relationships
- Flexible, team-player, attention-to-detail, pro-active and responsible working attitudes
- Must be authorized to work in the US
