About the Job
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ED Tech (Advanced) is required to meet unit competency and orientation requirements as defined for ED Tech 1 (Basic) role, additionally demonstrating competency in:
• Training/precept new ED Tech 1 and/or EMT/Paramedic students in collaboration with unit educator
• Attaching patient to end-tidal CO2 monitoring when applicable
• Managing and reporting collection devices:
Colostomy, ileostomy or other fecal management systems: care and output measures
Indwelling catheters: care and output measures
Nasogastric tubes to suction
• Competent in completing manual process for blood pressure and required reporting of abnormal values to supervising RN
• Discontinue invasive devices under the direction of the supervising RN:
Indwelling (Foley) catheters
Nasogastric tubes
Peripherally inserted intravenous catheters

Education and Experience
As outlined for ED Tech 1
•Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state with 2 years healthcare experience or
•Medical Assistant with 2 years of healthcare experience or
•Licensed as an EMT in applicable state with 2 years of healthcare experience or
•Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state with 1 year of healthcare experience
Plus 6 months experience as ED Tech 1for Mercy Health System or 6 months similar experience in another emergency department
Certification and Licensure
As outlined for ED Tech 1
•Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state or
•Certified as a Medical Assistant in applicable state or
•Licensed as an EMT in applicable state or
•Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (Other certifications per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, NALS)
