Job Summary:
Supervise and participate in the work of a parks crew performing various landscape, park maintenance, and public facility and infrastructure maintenance repair throughout the entire parks system, while reporting to the assigned Park Manager ensuring all tasks are completed safely, within budget, and timely for over 400 acres of park properties.

Minimum Requirements
- Associate's degree (two-year degree) or certification program of comparable length, or 5 (five)+ years of related work and supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience with complicated practices and precedents.
- Basic understanding and application of theoretical or scientific principles, acquired through college education or advanced vocational skills strengthened by years of on-the- job experience.
- Extensive knowledge of landscape design, installation, and maintenance, particularly regarding turf and plant management principles and applications.
- Understanding of basic budgeting standards, timecard approval system usage, and city policies.
- Requires a fundamental knowledge of irrigation design, installation, and maintenance as well as experience in all tools and equipment necessary to perform those required tasks.
- Understanding and experience reading as-built drawings, construction plans, and ability to make comments on such plans, experience with playground maintenance, safety inspections, and installation and design practices.
- Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.

Essential Functions:
Staff Management:
- Supervise, coach and work alongside full-time and seasonal employees.
- Prioritize and assign work to subordinate crew members and/or private contractors and participate in tasks/projects.
- Lead staff and participate in performing a wide range of construction and maintenance tasks such as trash removal, leaf and debris removal, snow removal, repair and maintenance to public facilities, irrigation design and install, landscape design and install, and maintaining public infrastructure.
- Train staff on proper playground safety inspection techniques as well as common maintenance practices.
- Operate and train staff on all equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- Perform conflict management with subordinate employees.
- Prepare performance evaluations.
- Perform timesheet approvals, time off requests and approval/denial, and schedule maintenance.
- Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees.
- Evaluate employee performance and goal setting.
- Assign and coordinate the work tasks of outside contractors engaging in maintenance, repair and installation on Park properties and monitor those tasks.
- Hold employees accountable for assigned tasks and goals.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback and training opportunities.
- Provide training opportunities with a focus on employee development.
- Organize and delegate assignments to team members.
Customer Service contact:
- Frequent citizen contact as well as contact with other city departments. They must be able to clearly verbalize and communicate with contractors, citizens, and employees of the City of Greeley.
- Resolve conflicts and complaints.
Communication:
- Park Manager will be the direct supervisor over the Parks Crew Supervisor(s).
- To keep the superintendent up to date on projects and tasks throughout Parks system.
- Supervises Park Technicians directly and assists in scheduling and work assignments, conflict resolution, special event assignments and task completion review. Construction meetings and project status.
- Respond to concerns and to relay information. Updates on parks maintenance practices, project updates as required.
- Send out monthly playground inspections to all Park Tech's, as well as close out work orders for associated playground, ballfield, and court inspections.
Compliance and Process Improvement:
- Procure required materials, file work orders and maintain written or electronic copies of project records.
- Pond maintenance tasks include water quality testing and scheduling lake treatments for improved water quality.
- Turf grass inspections and reporting for performance measures.
- Monitor the Parks Division chemical application program and coaching staff on proper application techniques.
- Ensuring all tracking forms are properly filled out and critical documentation is properly stored for record-keeping requirements.
- Analyzing information and processes and develops more effective or efficient processes.
- Establishing and achieving business and financial objectives.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Position will make recommendations for policy changes and assist in implementation.
Problem solving and decision making:
- Incumbent is expected to solve a variety of problems in situations where there are substantially diversified procedures, specialized standards, and only limited standardization.
- Changing priorities or differing situations requires the incumbent to consider which among many procedures should be followed in what sequence to achieve the required job results.
- Requires reasoning to produce a practical course of action within the established process. Choices fall within the range of specified, acceptable standards, alternatives, and technical practices.
Management Assistance
- Assume the responsibility of the art on loan installation program and will need to be able to schedule artists and staff for removals and installs.
- Assist Park Manager with administrative tasks.
- Assist manager with budget monitoring and providing suggestions for budget adjustments, CIP project inspections and reports, subordinate hiring practices to include seasonal staff.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions.
- Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs.) and use of medium weight tools.
- Working from ladders and bucket trucks up to 40' in the air
- Working from standing and kneeling positions
- Occasionally moving 50-to-100-pound items for standard grounds maintenance operations, shoveling heavy snow and mud. Working adjacent to heavy equipment as well as operating heavy equipment. Office environment includes computer screens, fluorescent lighting, and possible extensive periods of sitting or standing.
- Position is split between field and office environments.
- Position will be exposed to temperature extremes, extreme noise, confined spaces, charged electrical components, hazardous chemicals, and work around heavy equipment, as well as computer work and repetitive motions.
