GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs tasks in the care, maintenance, supervision of facilities including, but not limited to ball field care, set-up/break down for recreation programs and events, and facility cleaning. Work is carried out under the primary supervision of the Grounds Foreman. Work is reviewed through observation, conversation, and evaluation of results achieved.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs assigned tasks in ball field maintenance and facility care on City owned grounds, or other related areas. Such tasks may include unskilled or semi-skilled labor.
- Unskilled tasks will include but not limited to the use of hand-tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes, and other related hand tools. Additionally, picks up tree limbs, shrub trimmings, and other trash.
- Semi-skilled tasks will include but not limited to the use of gasoline-powered equipment such as hedge trimmer, weed eater, edger, push mower, and chain saw. Must have the ability to operate power driven riding lawn mower, tractor, and sand/clay unit. Work entails ability to operate pickup truck, trailer, and related City vehicles.
- Assists with facility supervision. Turns on/off facility lights, opens facilities, clears debris. Assists with the preparation, set-up and break down of recreation equipment and facilities.
- High frequency of standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, pushing, digging and sitting (riding equipment) are required. Constantly operates small equipment, including mowers of all types, tractors, and other related landscape machinery, including constant exposure to loud noises produced by equipment required to complete tasks.
- Occasionally job requires writing, detailing and lifting 50 lbs., or more. Work is outside and can occasionally be in extreme weather.
- Regularly work evenings and weekends.
- Performs any other duties or tasks that may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Must be willing to work weekends and evenings, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to use small equipment, hand tools, and gasoline powered lawn maintenance and ball field equipment used in the area of assignment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Field related: riding sand/clay unit, riding lawnmower, use of large equipment, such as tractors, use of gasoline-powered equipment, such as hedge trimmer, weed eater, edger, push mower, and chain saw; rope, saw, hand tools - such as rake, shovel, hoe, and related landscape equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- One or more years of experience in landscaping or ball field maintenance. Experience with specialized equipment for high maintenance athletic fields is a plus.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license.
