High Resort Eye Surgery Center (HRESC) is currently looking to fill the following position:
Position: Operating Room (OR) Technician (Ophthalmology)
Job Status: Full-Time (4-10hr shifts)
Starting pay $18.94 per hour +, depending on skills/experience
Job Duties of an Operating Room Surgical Technician May Include:
- Demonstrates general knowledge in the ophthalmology specialty and assists in planning and preparing the operating room for the surgical procedure.
- Evaluate and coordinate activities during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeons’ needs and necessary supplies.
- Review preference cards, gathers instruments, supplies and equipment, and assists with room turnover.
- Assists the surgeon with various types of surgical procedures by maintaining current knowledge of various procedures and supplies.
- Adhere to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment, while assuring the surgical team also adheres to the principles of sterile techniques.
- Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments (when appropriate) and signs documentation.
- Decontaminates instruments and autoclaves instrument trays as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of anatomy and physiology and identifies medications and solutions used intraoperatively by labeling them appropriately.
- Assures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source and initials documentation.
- Keeps circulating nurse informed and abreast of situations changing in the procedure.
- Removes instruments and supplies for OR and the end of the case. Appropriately disposes of drapes and sharps.
- Ensures that OR’s are stocked and that excess sterile items or equipment are removed and appropriately stored
- Assists in orientation of new staff and serves as a resource person and clinical expert.
- Complies with sterilization, infection, safety, and AAESC policies. Participates in the AAESC Quality program and monitoring.
- Coordinates and maintains supplies. Cleans and stores equipment. Processes broken equipment as directed.
- The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Skills/Qualifications:
- High school plus specialization, short-term training in the operating room setting. Prefer certification in scrubbing.
- One to three years’ experience preferred. Receives on the job training and competency verification to perform primary functions.
- Formal scrub training preferred.
- Typing skills of at least 35 words per minute are desirable.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (training provided and paid for by company).
