Summary: We are seeking a Cook to join our child care team, working 8 hours every Wednesday and filling in as needed for the Food and Nutrition Coordinator. This role involves food preparation, maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in the kitchen, and managing food-related documentation and inventory. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with DHHS child care licensing standards and contribute to a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment for children.

Key Responsibilities:

• Food Preparation:
  • Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children according to a pre-planned menu.
  • Ensure meals are prepared in a timely manner according to the schedule.
• Sanitation and Maintenance:
  • Maintain a clean kitchen by performing daily cleaning duties including dishes, sweeping, and mopping.
  • Regularly take out the trash and ensure disposal areas are kept clean and sanitary.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards to maintain sanitary conditions.
• Inventory Management:
  • Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Maintain records of inventory to avoid shortages and overstock.
• Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
  • Manage and document billing for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Ensure all kitchen operations comply with DHHS child care licensing standards.
  • Keep accurate records of meal counts, food purchases, and other relevant documentation for compliance and reporting purposes.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in food preparation, preferably in a child care environment.
• Knowledge of nutrition and dietary needs of children.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent; further training in culinary arts or nutrition is a plus.

Certifications:

• Food Handler's Certificate or willingness to obtain.

Salary Range:  $11-$13 per hour
