POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add Part Time Recreation Specialists to the team at Eastway Regional Recreation Center! These positions will focus on planning and implementing a variety of recreational programs and activities for our youth and senior adult population. This includes but is not limited to, educational and self-development activities, cultural arts, social events, afterschool programs and summer camps. The incumbents may also assist other recreation staff with a variety of activities and events. The selected candidates will be key members of our team in creating strong partnerships with our community and patrons. This position will work between 20-29 hours per week, which includes varying weekdays between the hours of 8am-5pm with some evenings, weekends and holidays based on facility and business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for Recreation Programming for diverse audiences.
- Experience with recreation program planning for Senior Adults and senior center operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in a regional recreation center.
- Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals.
- Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary.
- Enforce rules and regulations.
- Collect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
- Assist in light maintenance of facilities, recreational areas, program equipment and supplies.
- Referee at various sports activities.
- Provide services as timekeeper, scorekeeper or line-person at games.
- Supervise participants involved in recreational programs.
- Handle inquiries and complaints from public.
- Some programs may require driving a county vehicle to transport participants or commute to a different location.
- Assist with department events, field trips and community outreach events.
- May serve as the manager on duty if the Sr. Recreation Specialist is not available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: No experience required
Education: Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Health and Physical education, or a related field
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: Yes
Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License and County Driving Privileges; Requires the ability to obtain (within one year of hire) and maintain CPR, Wilderness First Aid or First Responder, and American Canoe Association Kayak and SUP level I or II
Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
