Lakeland Community College is recruiting adjunct faculty to teach Blood Collection Techniques and Clinical Chemistry. The classes consists of a lecture and laboratory component and are designed to be in-person.
Course: MDLT 2151 Blood Collection Techniques
Course Description: This course introduces students to theory and practice of blood collection. It focuses on the phlebotomy process and the role of the laboratorian in the pre-analytical process. Laboratory experience includes phlebotomy techniques. Students will learn how to correlate laboratory results with errors in the pre-analytical process.
Course: MDLT 2550 Clinical Chemistry
Course Description: This course specializes in the measurement of chemical components in the blood for the purpose of diagnosis, prognosis, and the treatment of disease. It emphasizes analytical principles, sources of error, and quality control. Laboratory procedures include analysis of proteins, carbohydrates, enzymes, lipids, and electrolytes. Students will learn to correlate laboratory results with disease states.
Qualifications: Required:
For lecture:
- ASCP MT/MLS certification (this includes a BS degree)
- Minimum of 2 years experience in appropriate clinical laboratory department
For lab:
- ASCP MLT certification
- Minimum of 2 years experience in appropriate clinical laboratory department
Preferred:
- Teaching experience
- Experience in web-based learning using Blackboard and Web-Ex
- Experience with software including Microsoft Word and Power-point
Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned class in a manner consistent with institutional and course goals and objectives.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate laboratory exercises that enhance student learning.
- Assume responsibility for teaching assignments – develops and posts assignments consistent with student knowledge base, skill competency and learning needs.
- Grade homework, quizzes, tests. Labs and other work in a timely manner.
- Provide documented feedback to students on class performance.
- Is available for remediation of students as required.
- Maintains open communication with Program Director regarding instructional needs.
