DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The patient access representative registers, schedules, and performs related processing duties for all patients being served by Outpatient Rehab. Duties are done in EMR system as appropriate. As a member of the Outpatient Rehab team the patient access representative is trained in performing a wide range of skilled administrative and clerical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Answers telephone and directs calls.
- Greets patients and assists in leaving and entering office.
- Schedules appointments for patients.
- Registers new patients; clears error report.
- Pulls and files patient charts.
- Scans and files Plans of Care, Discharges, Dr. letters, etc.
- Keeps statistics and assist in preparation of reports.
- Assists in billing and insurance functions.
- Verifies insurance in a timely manner.
- Communicates with physicians, lawyers and insurance carriers in the processing of patients.
- Maintains neat and tidy appearance of front office and waiting area.
- Provides secretarial services to professional staff and management.
- Impacts activities in other work areas on a frequent basis and contributes in multiple work areas.
- Demonstrates critical thought process and can work independently.
- Provides feedback to assist with decision making process.
- Works well with others.
- Documents detailed information in patient chart.
- Requires listening skills to maintain cooperative associations.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Broad range of administrative and technical skills in the context of the healthcare environment preferred.
- Knowledge and training in medical terminology, keyboarding, and computer skills preferred.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Office preferred.
- Previous experience preferred in the areas of scheduling.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work is light, able to lift or carry up to 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
- Positions required include sitting on a frequent basis (sustained sitting at least up to 30 minutes); standing and walking on at least an occasional basis; kneeling, overhead reaching and stair climbing on an occasional basis; stooping and bending on a frequent basis (including while in a seated position).
- Must have normal coordination and manual dexterity.
- At times may be called upon to assist therapists in cases of urgency.
