About the Job
The Patient Financial Services (PFS) Coordinator will be responsible for billing related functions across eight tax ID numbers which include but aren’t limited to: coordination of billing activities between PFS, Information Technology and Insurance companies, submitting claims, training new employees, and interacting with billing teams, ancillary departments and provider clinics to resolve billing problems and denials. This position will also manage insurance refunds, act as a Finance liaison for cash handling, balancing and reconciliation requiring highly proficient problem solving and mathematical skills. The PFS Coordinator will be a designated Epic super user identifying Epic automation opportunities, coordinating third party audits, submitting appeals and following up on outstanding insurance issues as well as monitoring CPT changes requiring initiation of CDM changes as appropriate. This is a highly skilled and advanced position within the PFS department that requires knowledge of all payer rules and reimbursement requirements. Attendance and participation is required in payer team and OPOR team meetings to facilitate and improve billing processes.
Responsibilities:(30%)* Identifies denial patterns providing root cause analysis and working with billing teams for follow up on outstanding insurance issues, including contacting insurance companies and utilizing the payer websites. Monitors CPT changes and initiates any CDM revisions needed. Meets regularly with managers, billers, and OPOR (One Person One Record) to identify areas to automate in Epic.
(30%)* Submits new claims to payers, working EDI and payer rejections. Maintains daily balancing sheets across all tax ID numbers to identify, troubleshoot and resolve balancing issues for daily deposits. Works with the payment posting team to identify balancing issues. Researches missing EFT’s, reconciling deposits across multiple bank accounts.
(30%)* Researches reimbursement and billing guidelines for all payers. Coordinates patient statement runs, reviews daily Epic claim runs, deposits and cash management. Reconciles insurance and patient refunds for Pay Management.
(10%)* Trains new staff in addition to any necessary refresher training for current staff.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Interacts with other departments, billers, collectors, and managers to resolve billing problems.

Certifications and Licensures:N/A
Required Education:High school diploma or GED is required
Associates degree with business courses, emphasis in computer training, medical terminology and accounting preferred along with previous billing experience.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:
Business communications and highly proficient math skills required.
Must have strong computer applications knowledge.
Requires three years of experience in a computerized medical setting. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Software preferred.
Knowledge of medical record/patient confidentiality laws. Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills required.

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
