About the Job
The Patient Safety Assistance Consultant (PSAC) promotes a culture of safety and identifies opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. The PSAC maintains systems within the organization to proactively predict, detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report, and manage patient adverse events or other incidents that may lead to patient harm. Additionally, this individual is responsible for reviewing and formulating policy or organizational changes and making recommendations for final approval by senior management. The PSAC works closely with the local senior leadership, legal department, quality department, patient advocacy, and other departments as necessary in performing the duties outlined below.

Responsibilities:- Experience in an inpatient or outpatient medical facility is required, military healthcare experience highly desired;
- Proficiency skills in Microsoft Suite of tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required;
- The ability to work independently, organize time, and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
- Possess the ability for “attention to detail" and the ability to effectively communicate patient safety concepts to leadership and Defense Health Agency (DHA) Patient Safety;
- Ability to Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders;
- Effective team and interpersonal skills;
- Must possess ability to work collaboratively with Risk Management, and Quality management; sits on the Executive team and fills in for the Patient Safety Manager (PSM) as needed. Government PSM will work side by side with the PSAC rather than a supervisory role over the PSAC. The PSM and PSAC align with the Chief of Medical Staff (SGH)/Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the organization; and
- Other duties as assigned supporting patient safety initiatives.
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a healthcare-related field, Business Administration (BA), Information Systems (IS), or equivalency in degree programs that include data analysis and statistical analysis;
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience at a healthcare facility;
Desired Skills:
- Military health experience is highly desired;
- Knowledge of The Joint Commissions (TJCs) accreditation standards, process, PS initiatives, and patient safety goals is preferred;
- Experience with performing CSAs, PRAs, and Performance Improvement (PIs) are highly desirable but able to be acquired after DHA start; and
- Understanding of Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, and SQL is preferred.
