Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Confirm patient identification prior to transport by verbal confirmation identification band on in-patients
Summary of Other Job Duties and Expectations
+ Must be competent and knowledgeable in regards to the needs and concerns of individuals in various age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics).
+ Document and alert the Radiology Supervisor/Director of the malfunction of various types of medical equipment used in the performance of job duties
+ Make recommendations to the Operations Manager as to additional transport, IV poles, and oxygen equipment needed to operate the department
+ Make recommendation to nursing staff on how to use proper transport modes for patients
+ Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures and CPR if necessary
+ Assure proper handling of patient's IV and other medical devices during transport
+ Notify nursing units when leaving and returning with patients and utilizes ticket to ride.
+ Assist in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and radiographic tables, utilizing safety procedures and correct body mechanics
+ Clean and initiate repairs as necessary on all transport equipment
+ Fill oxygen tanks as needed and check oxygen regulators for proper operations prior to use
+ Utilize proper isolation techniques according to Hospital policy
+ Assist patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs, and radiology equipment to include CT/MRI scanner
+ Review patient's chart and verify physician’s orders prior to patient transport to the department
+ Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor
+ Rotate call as needed
+ Present self in a positive manner, as reflected by personal attire and etiquette
+ Demonstrate a commitment to flexible scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care
+ May be crossed trained as needed

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education: N/A
Experience: Previous experience as transporter preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be BLS certified upon hire.
