About the Job
The Payroll Manager is responsible for all payroll functions of GAC and three partner schools. This role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in payroll management, compliance, transformation, and process improvement. This position will have hands-on experience in high-volume, multi-state, accurate, timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and company policies. This position also provides excellent customer service for all payroll-related inquiries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage end-to-end payroll process for four schools in multi-states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements to enhance payroll efficiency, accuracy, and optimize payroll systems, processes, and reporting
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure seamless payroll operations
- Develop and coordinate the payroll calendar and timeline
- Provide direction and feedback to managers regarding input, revision, approval of time reported, and payroll information
- Lead communication on payroll issues, deadlines, and initiatives
- Keep abreast of all changes to payroll tax laws and regulations ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal payroll regulations, as well as company policies
- Prepare and reconcile state and federal payroll tax deposits and quarterly reports
- Research and respond to federal and state tax inquiries and notices
- Manage year-end payroll processing and operations including reconciliations of W-2s according to applicable laws and regulations
- Perform internal payroll audits to review earnings, deductions, pay calculations, and withholdings
- Reconcile monthly retirement contributions, investigating and resolving any discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with plan requirements
- Support the annual retirement plan audit by ensuring compliance with ERISA regulations and company policies. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate a thorough review and ensure timely completion
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors and service providers
- Provide immediate and responsive support to employees experiencing payroll issues

- Five to seven years of hands-on experience in Payroll
- Three or more years of payroll system experience (Paylocity experience preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
- Or, any equivalent combination of experience and education
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) by the American Payroll Association (APA) or ability to attain certification within an agreed-upon timeframe

- Payroll Federal and State Tax Compliance (i.e., Form 941, Form W2, Form W3, etc.)
- Must be able to report to work onsite at the Norcross office location
- Must be able to work within a typical office environment with some noise and distractions
- Close vision for computer work, and the ability to see details at close range required
- Repetitive motion--substantial movement of the hands, wrists, and fingers
- The ability to hear and understand speech and other sounds
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time
- May be required to lift up to 15 lbs. from time to time
- Must have a growing and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ

- Successful reference check, background check, credit check, and drug and alcohol screen clearance
