Job requirements:
- Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer will need to be proficient in locating, evaluating, and recording pertinent anatomical congenital heart pathology, while effectively communicating any findings with the attending physician.
- Performs all facets of cardiac ultrasound testing for the noninvasive laboratory of Cardiology Services, including two-dimensional, Doppler, transesophageal and stress echocardiography.
- Required Education: Graduate from an accredited cardiac sonography program or have practiced as a sonographer for greater than 2 years.
- Preferred Experience: 5 years practicing as a sonographer
- Strong understanding of congenital heart pathologies and both pre/post-surgical procedures.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification with AHA.
- ARDMS or CCI registered. Must have RDCS or RDMS with at least two sonographer specialties (ie: pediatric and/or fetal echocardiography, OB/GYN, adult echocardiography); BLS Certification from AHA. Explains echocardiogram procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation, as evidenced by customer satisfaction.
- Prepares patient for pediatric or fetal echocardiogram and performs exam per echo lab protocol.
- Communicates effectively with patient and/or parent to obtain clinical pediatric cardiology history and/or maternal fetal history/informed consent from patient or patient's chart
- Identifies errors and takes immediate action for corrections, as evidenced by the EMR and PACS Systems reports. Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems in the pediatric and maternal fetal patients that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome, as evidenced by exam results and patient satisfaction.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of echocardiography principles, theory, anatomy and congenital cardiac pathology processes, and utilizing the most appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of proper sterile techniques and isolation precautions as they pertain to the various specialty procedures.
- Assist technical director in obtaining or maintaining IAC accreditation
- Acts as a preceptor and resource for students, and new sonographers
- Maintains proper operation of ultrasound equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.
- Participates in staff development, in-service workshops and educational activities.
- Participates in professional development activities and meetings
- Travel to outside clinic locations.
