About the Job
The J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Physical Therapist to join our team. The Physical Therapist will provide evaluations and therapy to developmentally disabled patients, birth-21, with a variety of medical conditions. These services encompass our inpatient and outpatient clients.
Starting salary: $60,000 based on experience
Evaluation: Performs initial and ongoing assessments of each patient’s condition and abilities at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s professional experience. Selects evaluation tools, gathers all information necessary to properly evaluate, and interprets results in a manner appropriate to the patient’s age and abilities.
Treatment planning: Establishes a plan of care which appropriately prioritizes and addresses the identified problems, which is aligned with the patient’s/family’s needs, capabilities and goals. Designs treatment programs for patients with a variety of diagnoses at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s experience, adapting treatment techniques for patients unable to respond to conventional methods. Continually assesses the patient’s changing condition and alters the plan of care appropriately, reflecting his or her needs and discharge plans. Consults with other members of the health care team to coordinate PT with other activities and treatments. Terminates treatment appropriately and plans for the patient’s discharge with adequate time for the patient to access additional resources as needed and for education of the patient and family in post-discharge activities or needs.
Intervention: Administers the plan of care safely, demonstrating competence in those techniques and procedures implemented at a quality level commensurate with the employee’s experience. Observes patient response to treatment and makes necessary adjustments during each treatment session. Establishes rapport with patient and family.
Documentation: Documents delivery of PT service in language which is clear, concise and legible, and which is in accordance with the APTA Guidelines for Physical Therapy Documentation. Prepares evaluation reports, discharge summaries, staffing reports, and equipment orders which meet all departmental standards for completeness and timeliness.
Patient/family education: Provides appropriate education and training to patient and/orcaregivers. Designs home programs which are individualized to meet the patient’s needs. Utilizes written materials, verbal instruction, and demonstration which are adapted to the trainee’s age, literacy level, cognitive ability, etc. Informs the patient and caregivers of progress, challenges, and any other information related to the therapeutic process. Coordinates with outside health care providers for post-discharge or concurrent treatment.
Supervision of Physical Therapist Assistants, PT Aide, and Student Interns: Utilizes support personnel to perform duties within their abilities to increase overall departmental efficiency. Selects and delegates appropriate tasks of the plan of care. Directs and supervises supportive personnel in the implementation of such tasks and adjusts delegated tasks when necessary. Provides appropriate and timely feedback to support personnel and students regarding job performance.
Center and Department policies: Organizes and prioritizes work schedule in order to meet the productivity standards established by the Department. Attends and participates in departmental meetings, inservices, and other meetings. Complies with Center and Department policies and procedures.
Adheres to the principles of the APTA Code of Ethics, Guide for Professional Conduct, the APTA Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, the Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy, and Oklahoma Physical Therapy Practice Act.
Maintains current physical therapy licensure, including requirements for continuing education, as well as CPR certification and any other certifications deemed necessary and appropriate by therapist and supervisor.
Willingly and fully completes other job assignments and participates actively in all job activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
About J.D. McCarty Center:
J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, social services, psychological services, behavioral analysis, and recreational therapy. Our 80-acres campus includes a on-site elementary, intermediate, and high school which is staffed by Norman Public School teachers. Patients may continue treatment needs beyond the 30-days as an in-patient in habilitation status based upon progress or placement needs.
