Peer Specialist - Adult Outpatient Therapy Team - Integrated Services of Kalamazoo

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to work as a Peer Specialist for our Adult Outpatient Therapy Team.

What You Will Be Doing
Working as a Peer Specialist you will be responsible for modeling a recovery based lifestyle and sharing your personal story and experience to help people receiving services or experiencing mental illness achieve their own recovery. You will have the opportunity to provide input into policy development and help to assure consumer sensitive language and will participate on committees and in-service initiatives as requested. The individual in this position will be knowledgeable about and actively support 1) culturally competent, recovery-based practices, 2) person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his or her own life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals and 3) a trauma informed culture to aid consumers in their recovery process. You will assist the team in providing comprehensive care for those receiving services.

This position will be primarily focused on engaging individuals who are just beginning in our Outpatient Therapy program. You will serve as the first point of contact, co-lead pre-treatment groups, and provide follow up and engagement for individuals. You will also be assisting the program team with tracking new referrals to ensure timely access to services.

What We Require
You will have a High School diploma or GED with at least one year relevant work experience; experience in a mental health setting or Community Mental Health is preferred. You will have a knowledge of self-determination principles and person-centered planning process. Michigan Certified Peer Support Specialist designation strongly preferred, with ability to obtain certification required. Basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and e-mail and basic knowledge in the use of electronic office equipment, including copy and fax machines.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Physical Efforts – Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.

Working Conditions – Office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of computer screen for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. Possible eyestrain from extended periods of viewing computer screen. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area is required.
