About the Job
Under the leadership of the Director, Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician – Certified is an active member of the department that assists the Pharmacy staff in the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. The Pharmacy Technician – Certified helps with prescriptions, delivery of medications, answering the phone, stocking shelves. Tech maintains an inventory of pharmacy supplies and submits reorders as needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education:
Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certificate.
- Experience:
Requires up to one year of work-related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
Requires and maintains a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPT) registration.
. Requires and maintains a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Motor vehicle report is required upon hire and reviewed annually.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Assists the pharmacist in providing medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
- Assists in filing prescriptions using unit dose medications and basic compounding.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures using aseptic techniques.
- Performs dosage calculations filling various prescriptions including IV antibiotics and fluids for patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.
- Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers. Computes charges and either enters them on the computer or forwards them to the business office.
- Maintains data, generates reports and provides the compiled information to other departments.
- Receives and places supplies on shelves, tags and prices each item according to directions and processes all related paper work.
- Manages and rotates inventory within the pharmacy and in nursing units.
- Processes patient charges for pharmaceuticals using the Pharmacy charging system.
- Reconciles medication stores including controlled substances.
- Receives, inventories and stores patients' home medication.
- Maintains the Pharmacy in a clean and orderly manner.
- They transport drugs and medications to the Nursing Home or other off-site locations, pick up or return drugs or medications from supplier locations as needed.
- Functions as part of an interdisciplinary team promoting positive interpersonal communication skills when communicating with patients, families, visitors, physicians and staff in other departments of the organization.
- Complies with CRHS and department safety, infection control and performance improvement initiatives and sterile procedures, ensuring the delivery of products and services.
- Presents a professional image to CRHS nursing and medical staff members.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Standards of Performance:
- Provides medication, drug information and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
- Prepares pharmaceuticals for patients that are age appropriate with consistent dosage variations for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and knows to consult with pharmacists when questions arise.
- Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures using aseptic techniques.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders them accordingly.
- Assists in filing prescriptions using unit dose medications and preparing compound pharmaceutical dosages as indicated by the prescriptions.
- Complies with all standards of care, safety and infection control policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates reliability as measured by compliance with the CRHS Time and attendance policy.
- Demonstrates professional conduct and adherence to all safety, confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
- Promotes teamwork with the entire staff as well as other contacts within the hospital, as measured by observations of Manager and co-workers.
- Attends professional development programs and in-service training and meets the minimum requirement for continuing professional education.
- Adheres to the CRHS Standards of Behavior as measured by observations of staff as well as outside and other inside customers.
- Verbalizes all core competencies of the unit and department.
- Complies with all regulatory requirements including the National Patient Safety Goals as observed by peers, supervisor and all members of the healthcare team.
