About the Job
Assist in performing pharmacy related tasks in the Operating Room (OR) and other surgical areas. Serves as a liaison between Pharmacy Staff, OR staff, and Anesthesia staff to fulfill medication orders, restock, and maintain medication supplies. Assist Pharmacy Leadership Team in developing cost saving initiatives and standardizing policies and procedures related to OR and surgical areas. Performs all essential duties and responsibilities of a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT). Ensure the accurate delivery of medications to the appropriate Hospital personnel in a timely fashion under the supervision of a pharmacist. Be responsible for ensuring proper storage of medications as well as maintaining correct medication charges. Be responsible for maintaining the required certification and competencies.
SHIFT AND SCHEDULE
Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Serves as a liaison between Pharmacy Staff, OR staff, and Anesthesia staff to fulfill medication orders, restock, and maintain medication supplies for Operating Rooms.
- Performs all duties in accordance with established Pharmacy and OR Policies and Procedures.
- Be responsible for maintaining adequate OR medication inventory.
- Accurately dispense controlled substances from Pharmacy Controlled Substances Module (CSM) Vault to OR dispensing cabinets. Be complaint with CSM policy and procedure.
- Assist Pharmacy Leadership Team in developing cost saving initiatives and standardizing policies and procedures related to OR and surgical areas.
- Be responsible for maintaining Kit Check workflow in order to restock Anesthesia trays.
- Conducts oneself in a manner that is conducive with a professional pharmacy environment.
- Maintains high quality of work and basic computer skills.
- Perform charge audits and ensure all the manual charges are captured for OR and other surgical procedures.
- Understands department function.
- Be compliant with the completion of all required documentation.
- Maintain skills and competencies required to perform duties of a RPhT. Maintain IV certification and competencies as a standard requirement for a RPhT at Midland Memorial Hospital
- Able to calculate medication dosages and accurately interpret information on medication labels.
- Continuous improvement of skills and knowledge.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be certified either through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and registered with the state as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Inpatient pharmacy experience and experience in the Peri-Operative area preferred.
