Axient's Systems Engineering Group (SEG) seeks a Phenomenology Scientist to research and develop advanced models and simulations of physical phenomena in support of the Missile Defense Agency and US Navy. The phenomena of interest include missile debris, missile plumes and reentry wakes, atmospheric propagation effects for RF and IR signals, and the effects on signal propagation of various types of clutter, including land and sea clutter. Position is located in Columbia, MD.
What you will do...:Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Research, design, and develop models and simulations of physical phenomena related to missile defense
- Work with software developers and managers to transition algorithms and tools to formal C++ products
- Work with SEG leadership and other subject matter experts to develop phenomenology-related project road maps
- Write technical memos and white papers that summarize research, threat capabilities, or other areas of interest or concern
- Present technical work and provide technical expertise at conferences and meetings with customers, collaborators, and competitors
- Mentor and task junior staff
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
- Ph.D. (or Master’s degree and 2 years of industry or government experience) in physics, mathematics, or engineering
- Strong analytical, logical, and problem-solving skills
- Mathematical background in areas such as statistics, linear algebra, differential equations, and numerical methods
- Strong computational skills (C/C++, Fortran, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent)
- Experience working on complex technical projects
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Highly motivated. Possesses the ability to learn rapidly and work independently or on a team
- Radar, IR sensor, and missile defense experience preferred
