Job DescriptionCompass Government Solutions is seeking dedicated and compassionate Phlebotomists who are interested in providing onsite support at the Danville, Illinois VA Medical Center. In preparation to bid on the associated government contract, we are seeking qualified candidates who are willing to be included in our proposal as an interested and skilled individual. As the Medical Technologist, your primary responsibility will be to draw blood from patients for various laboratory tests while ensuring a high level of patient care and comfort. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of laboratory procedures and medical terminology.
Job Requirements
• Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity
of tests and specimen requirements, the mechanics of venipuncture, and patient
preparation.
• Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood
cultures and compatibility samples.
• Accession and receive samples into VA laboratory information system package for in-house
testing or send-outs to reference laboratories.
• Instruct patients in the proper collection of 24-hour urine and other samples collected at home.
• Prepare collection, measure, and record 24-hour urine volumes.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory including those requiring special handling.
• Look up laboratory order numbers and patient information for outpatient draws.
• Use a numbering system to check patients into the laboratory.
• Answer phone and direct calls to other laboratory sections
• Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with
Patients, Families, and all other Medical Center Employees.
• Provide general clerical and administrative support for the area.
• Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing area.
Must be able to work
• Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., alternating tours. Overtime on an as-needed basis
• Experience: Minimum one year experience within the past 5 years
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained or issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), an organization recognized by the AHA, or Military Training Network (MTN) and maintained during their work at the VA.
