This is a nightshift position 3-4 weeks training on days and then transfer to 2:30pm - 11:00 pm M-F
Position Description: Polishing Operator
Employee has strong capabilities in various forms of mold/die polishing skills, and quality inspection/evaluations of mold/die(s) from external supplier s workmanship. Responsible for blueprint interpretation and be able to ensure a quality product. Is cost conscientious, schedule adherent, uses time efficiently, and is innovative.
Principle Accountabilities:
Responsibilities include polishing, quality evaluation(s) from external suppliers, and in-process die inspections for a specialty tooling operation.
Highly skilled to be able to coordinate with floor activities within your area on the shift. Work assignments are tied to the CNC machining operation to make sure schedules are met.
Proficiency in mathematics, computer 2D drafting, and general computing skills.
Responsible for communicating work status and assignments with prior/subsequent shift crew members to ensure a smooth transition of information and responsibilities.
Perform part inspection using micrometers, calipers, height indicator, etc.
Assist department management in providing materials and tooling inventories to meet production goals/schedules.
Maintain the certification of skills and training needs for polishing using BJA s, OJT and safe work practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Day shift M-F
Challenges:
The challenge for this position is to be successful at polishing large molds using standard polishing practices and hand tools, working metal transitions to meet or exceed customer specifications. The polishing work is not repetitive. Each mold/die assignment usually requires a different polishing skills and experience. Demand for polishing varies so employee needs to have polishing skills (CNC machining skills are a plus) or other work assignments to balance work week.
Knowledge and Experience:
5+ years experience in a Machine shop in finishing and equipment
3-5 years experience with various methods of polishing practices
Proficient in the use of measuring equipment (+/- 0.002 tolerances) to inspect your own work.
Minimum high school degree
Trade school desired
Motivational skills
Strong communication skills
