The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Transportation System Modeler in the Model and Data Development program area to carry-out travel modeling activities. NCTCOG develops, maintains, and disseminates the only regional travel model for all transportation agencies in the region. The majority of model development work is done internally, and the Model and Data Development program area has forged a collaborative work environment with transportation agencies in the region and strives to do so nationally. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assisting staff with estimating travel behavior models
- Assisting staff with data collection
- Providing technical support to assist with automating mathematical models through software implementation and programming
- Assisting with data clean-up, data analysis, and interpretation of various transportation data
- Working with Geographic Information System (GIS) programs
- Developing materials and documentation for analytical products and training
- Presenting and communicating analytical products and results to management and staff
Required Skills
- Familiarity with travel behavior modeling through education or experience
- Working knowledge of computer programming for computation and analytics in one or more languages (i.e, Java, Python, C++, etc.)
- Familiarity with one of the major travel demand modeling software packages (i.e, TransCAD, Cube, Emme, Visum, etc.)
- Familiarity with design and application of statistical modeling and concepts
- Familiarity with one of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software programs (i.e, TransCAD, ESRI, Post-GIS, etc.)
- Ability to explain analytical and technical subjects to staff in formal presentations and documents
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment
Required Education and Experience
- Work requires specialized knowledge in a professional or technical field, which is acquired in a Master’s degree. Relevant fields of study include civil engineering, computer science, or city, regional, or urban planning
- One year or less of job related experience in the areas of travel demand modeling, data analysis, and model development; experience may be gained during academic studies, research projects, or professional experience
Starting Salary Range
$61,835.00 – $77,293.75 annually

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
