EP&MD focuses on three mission contributions: Clean Fossil Energy, Electricity Infrastructure, & Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. **Responsibilities** The Advanced Energy Systems group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has a history of developing innovative solutions to problems of national significance in energy, global climate change, and national security. The group is currently seeking a post-doctorate engineer to support their growing research and development work in carbon capture and utilization. The portfolio includes leading solvent solutions for carbon capture in the nation and world. Technologies are also being developed to efficiently convert captured CO2 to useful chemicals. This portfolio is being applied to a range of decarbonization applications under the mission of the Department of Energy and other agencies. The successful post-doctorate candidate will work with multidisciplinary teams in the carbon capture and utilization portfolio. One key responsibility will be to assist in the design (or redesign) of bench-scale experimental equipment and operating systems, along with their associated safety planning, risk assessment, construction, startup and maintenance. The supporting of test plan development is another key responsibility, with the aim of efficiently gathering and processing high-quality data. These steps lead into the supporting or leading the actual equipment testing, which is another key responsibility, followed by the analysis of the data. The successful candidate will also work with the broader set of team members to regularly understand performance barriers for the technologies under development and brainstorm on ways to mitigate those barriers. The ideal candidate will be a well-organized, self-starter, with a high capacity for attention to detail. Verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong time management skills, are essential. The successful candidate will also: + Support experimental planning, development of safety documents, and interpretation of generated results. + Interact, communicate, and tackle problems with a diverse team of research staff + Be able to take initiative and work independently when needed + Lead manuscript development and maintain a strong publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature + Present research at conferences and project review meetings + Participate in the development of research proposals + Train and mentor other junior staff, as necessary **Qualifications** Minimum Qualifications: + Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
