Position Summary:
The Fahimipour Lab at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher with a passion for community ecology, animal behavior, and species interactions. We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds who are excited to tackle interdisciplinary problems at the intersection of experiments, theory, and computational analysis. This position is a 2-year appointment, with potential for extension. The postdoc will have the flexibility to develop projects in areas of personal interest, leveraging the lab’s expertise in ecological networks and its resources for video analysis, computer vision, and machine learning. We are especially interested in candidates with some experience in modeling or a strong desire to expand into theoretical ecology, but we encourage all motivated scientists to apply.
Potential Research Areas Include:• Ecological Modeling and Dynamics: Use mathematical or computational models (e.g., agent-based models, dynamical systems) to explore how species interactions and behavioral adaptations influence biodiversity and ecosystem stability.• Computer Vision and Machine Learning: Apply videography and deep learning techniques to quantify animal behaviors and ecological interactions, utilizing field and lab data from terrestrial or aquatic systems.• Big Data Approaches in Ecology: Leverage machine learning and statistical tools to analyze large ecological datasets, addressing questions in trait-based ecology.
Responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, analyzing and interpreting experimental and modeling data, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and presenting research at national and international conferences
If you are excited by any of these areas or have complementary skills and ideas, we strongly encourage you to apply. Our lab fosters a collaborative environment where curiosity and innovation are highly valued.
