PostgreSQL Database Administrator with AWS Aurora

This is a W-2 position only (no staffing agencies or contractors). Candidates must currently reside in the U.S .

Hybrid Position: Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM. This is a flexible position strongly prefer located in St. Louis, MO.

The hiring manager will also consider candidates near Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Plano, TX; Bloomington, MN; Bloomfield, CT; Morris Plains, NJ; and Philadelphia, PA. Candidates will be expected to work onsite three days a week and remotely for two days.

Duties: Our client is seeking a talented PostgreSQL Database Administrator. The ideal candidate will have experience in AWS and on-premise systems administration, performance tuning, and Linux server administration. Proficiency in Terraform and Ansible development and/or automation is a significant plus.

In this role, the candidate will collaborate with internal customers to deliver an enterprise-level database backend for top-tier applications. They will architect, deploy, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot both development and production database environments, ensuring data assurance for users. Additionally, the candidate should be prepared to create and support viable AWS database solutions that meet organizational needs while adhering to internal policies and procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain AWS Aurora/PostgreSQL database servers in all environments.
• Optimize database performance through tuning.
• Develop monitoring and alerting architectures focused on incident reduction strategies.
• Design and implement redundancy and failover strategies.
• Establish backup and restoration strategies in accordance with data retention requirements.
• Support software upgrades and patching.
• Mentor team members to develop expertise in AWS Aurora/PostgreSQL and cloud technologies.
• Provide insights to team leadership regarding best practices.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues as part of an on-call rotation.
• Remain open to learning and supporting new database and AWS technologies.

• Strong PostgreSQL experience (5-7 years min)
• Knowledge of AWS networking concepts such as VPN, Security Groups, and Subnets is a plus.
• Must have current and strong AWS Aurora experience.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting in AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Performance Insights is advantageous.
• Experience with DB2.
• Development experience with modern scripting/automation languages (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python).
• Experience with database performance tuning, scaling, clustering, and troubleshooting concepts.
• Preferred experience with DPA, Etcd, HAProxy, Patroni, and pgBackRest.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience working across multiple teams within a division and enterprise-wide.
• Ability to quickly learn new database technologies supported by the team.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, facilitation, and prioritization skills.
• Strong technical acumen, ensuring that technical solutions, strategies, practices, and governance deliver business and customer value.
• Self-motivated and proactive in improving the team environment.
• Proven track record of implementing small changes that have a measurable impact.
• Demonstrated energy, integrity, and a strong work ethic.
• AWS Cloud Practitioner and Certified Database certifications are a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
