President and CEO, East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) - Nonprofit Talent
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
About the Job
The Organization
East End Cooperative Ministry changes the lives of those facing the impacts of poverty.
East End Cooperative Ministry (EECM) was founded in 1970 as a collective response to changes in the East End community, born when local faith communities recognized that the troubles of the community were too great for any one of them to address alone. EECM was initially envisioned to serve the young, the elderly, and the poor of the area, as well as to promote interfaith events. Throughout its over 50 years in service, EECM has continued to respond to changing community needs through its many programs and services. Whether offering meals and pantry items to those who are experiencing food insecurity, working alongside those without a safe place to live and recover and with barriers to obtaining employment, or reaching out to young people to help them work toward a brighter future, EECM is always here.
EECM offers a variety of programs and services to serve the community:
- Community Food Services: Community Food Services offers food assistance and meals to those who are experiencing food insecurity. EECM relies on the generosity of neighboring congregations, businesses, and our volunteers to maintain this essential program and have the ability to provide these services to the community. The Food Pantry provides groceries to those who are in need and offers an array of fresh produce and dairy, as well as dry goods and shelf stable items. EECM also offers daily (M-F) Community Lunches free of charge to all who are in need.
- Housing & Employment Services: Housing & Employment Services works alongside individuals and families to help them build strong foundations - meeting housing needs first so they can become stable and then EECM works to move them to higher levels of self-fulfillment through case management and employment services. This includes an Emergency Shelter for those who are unhoused as well as a Recovery House designed for adult men and women in active recovery and who are referred from a treatment facility, probation, or justice-related services.
- Children & Youth Services: EECM programs reach out to young people to help them discover and work toward a more promising future. Their programs help children and youth succeed in school, make healthy decisions, explore new interests, set personal goals, and most importantly, learn to value themselves. From a variety of after-school programs to summer camps and recreational programs for sports, EECM keeps kids engaged and supported.
