Position Summary
MemorialCare System Services team members work with end users, other Implementation Service (IS) teams, vendors, and management to help assess, select, configure, test, install and provide on-going support for software and hardware solutions for the end user community in administrative, financial, ancillary, clinical as well as additional areas. This includes helping to understand, change, and improve business workflows based on software solution modifications, to achieve process improvements and to ensure optimal use of applications. They maintain the role of IS liaison to assigned departments, helping to facilitate resolution of requests and problems, as well as to ensure end user/management customer satisfaction.
MemorialCare Principal Application Architects are responsible for aligning technology solutions with business strategies. They act as lead contributors to the broader, enterprise architecture strategy, which includes business, information, technical, solutions and security architectures. For large projects with multiple systems, they are responsible for working primarily with management and technical specialists across functional disciplines to ensure enterprise architecture strategies are maintained and advanced. Principal Application Architects work closely with other architects and leaders across MemorialCare, to assist business leaders in their achievement of operations focused outcomes. They work to practically apply existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business needs and models.
Principal Application Architects contribute to major projects and initiatives by providing, applying, and optimizing architectural standards, through the provision of technical direction, and through systems analysis, design, development, integration, and enhancement. They work closely with customers, application support and other team members to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. These solutions must be aligned with business and IS strategies and comply with MemorialCare’s architectural standards.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
- Acts as lead contributor to the enterprise systems architecture maintenance, optimization and strategy.
- Consults with application team owners to harmonize systems with the enterprise solution architecture and identify when it is necessary to modify the solution architecture to accommodate business and project requirements.
- Considers and assesses business objectives, develops alternative technical solutions where necessary; advises on options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other processes and system priorities.
- Owns responsibility for system improvement as a key contributor to optimization of existing processes where technology is utilized through use of applications knowledge, systems and business experience, and technical expertise.
- Works to influence others to accept job function’s views and practices as well as accept new concepts, practices, and approaches. May conduct briefings with senior leaders within the job function which requires the ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
- Communicates with parties within and outside of own job function, and typically has responsibilities for communicating with parties external to the organization, which may include customers or vendors.
- Mentors and provides oversight on architectural and development design best practices by reviewing detailed system designs and providing overall direction
- Holds responsibility for thorough, in-depth systems evaluation and proposes best practices, standards, optimized processes, and steps for full exploitation of new technology and application solutions, including standard commercial products, custom applications and hybrid solutions
- Establishes strategic and robust technology roadmaps for MemorialCare’s clinical service lines and business entities through careful planning and collaboration with other technical and application team leads.
- Leads project management operations, disaster recovery, and business continuity including the oversight and prioritization of active, and in-queue initiatives while managing individual assignments.
- Assists with oversight of day-to-day operations including making assignments, leading escalated requests with team and providing reports to leadership.
- Manages upgrades and net-new implementation initiatives
- Leads collaboration within and across Enterprise IS teams.
- Strategizes prioritization and overall operations related to assigned areas and embedded systems.
- Assists with the completion of requests for scoping, and business plans related to ancillary applications and core systems of assigned service lines and departments.
- Maintains strong working relationships with end users and department leaders to assist with workflow analysis and business needs requiring IT services, Lean initiatives, and IT process improvement activities.
- Ensures that both client and IS teams’ needs are met as projects evolve, monitors project progress, handles issues that arise, and communicates regularly on project developments to relevant participants in efforts to maintain overall visibility.
- Works independently with client and IS resources to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives
- Educates and trains junior staff related to project management processes through on-the-job instruction and formal training programs
*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications/Work Experience:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as a clinical or applications analyst, computer technician in a healthcare setting required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in strategic and operations planning
- Recognized ability to propose and apply multiple, best practice technology solutions to business problems
- Demonstrated ability to innovate with an expert understanding of emerging technologies to address needs and problems of Healthcare
- Proven strong communication skills including explaining complex concepts effectively to technical and nontechnical audiences, negotiation and persuasion, conflict resolution, and presenting to executive levels management
- Validated experience facilitating and leading data solution design, architecture and delivery planning activities across diverse and multi-disciplinary teams
- Proven visionary who anticipates future computing capabilities and healthcare trends that MemorialCare should appropriately prepare for
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a high level of trust, confidence and intellectual integrity with both business and IS partners
- Established exceptional planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and consultation skills
- Demonstrated ability of advanced IT fundamentals, programming, design patterns, database design and querying
- Proven knowledge in areas such as networking, security, performance tuning, high availability and distributed systems
- Experienced Program Manager for enterprise wide implementation of a service line
- Proven abilities in Cloud Computing
- Demonstrated experience across areas of architecture, interoperability, modeling, visualization and data warehousing
- Proven history of managing oversight of team-based project management operations and methodologies.
- Proven proficiency developing test scenarios and scripts for integrated ancillary applications and core systems.
- Solid understanding of enterprise architecture related to ancillary applications and core systems including business continuity.
- Experienced establishing designing and implementing ancillary application and system support models with a core understanding of IT operations.
- Proven progressive project management experience working independently as well as in a team situation meeting aggressive deadlines
- Proven ability to apply an extensive amount of hands-on experience and expert level knowledge of ancillary applications and core systems while leading highly complex projects at the enterprise level
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of all areas of application support including integration using HL7 messaging and administration of system and service life cycles.
- Experienced in leading projects, providing expert consultative guidance and direction on change initiatives, effectively dedicating time across more than one project, and meeting established deadlines
- Demonstrated high energy levels and tolerance of tight deadlines, time pressures, and ambiguity
- Proven ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules, and step-by-step action plans
Education/Licensure/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required; Advanced degree preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent PMI recognized certification preferred
- Interoperability related certification preferred
