POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Print Production Coordinator advances Case Western Reserve University's mission by helping coordinate the final production of the institution's print products. The individual will apply industry-leading practices to ensure University Marketing and Communications¿ printing timelines are met and products are completed to the specified standards. This individual also will support the university's efforts to ensure that Case Western Reserve's presence reflects the stature and excellence of the teaching, learning and research that takes place on its campus.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Act as liaison between University Marketing and Communications and print vendors to ensure the successful printing of marketing pieces, which include but are not limited to: one pagers, magazines, invitations, brochures, product packaging, books, advertising, signage and banners. (20%)
2. Initiate requests for competitive bids and negotiate with vendors to perform print jobs. Review print specifications and bids for accuracy. Provide those estimates and invoices in a timely, organized manner to administrative manager for procurement process and vendor payment. (20%)
3. Perform final quality assurance/prepress review of artwork before electronic delivery to vendor to ensure design files adhere to printing format guidelines. (20%)
4. Continuously monitor print production schedules/phases of printing to ensure that timelines, delivery and production quality are met; update tracking database accordingly. (20%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Seek out cost-effective printing alternatives when appropriate, ensure the sourcing of requested stock/materials. Seek out clarification related to specialty printing techniques, vendor-specific file setup, and request templates and materials samples.(5%)
2. Work with creative director, project managers and graphic designers to establish project timelines and troubleshoot production challenges. (5%)
3. Apply knowledge of printing processes and graphic design language when corresponding with print vendors. (5%)
4. Support long-term file and image archiving efforts. (5%)
5. Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%)
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of experience in related roles OR associate degree in a relevant discipline and three years of experience in related roles OR high school education and at least 7 years professional work experience in related roles.
Experience working with such Adobe Creative Suite programs as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
